My grandmothers name was Jolan (Maczek) Kondrc who married a Frank Kondrc, her parents names where Walter Maczek, and Elly (Perutz) Maczek. I know that Elly lived in the US, and Jolan still resides in N.J. Elly had at least one sister named Annie who married a Hans Paul Mauder and they resided in England for their life. They had a son named Uxel. The name Maczek is from Czech, if anyone might have some info on this please post or email me.

I am on a hunt for forms of this name myself. I agree with David in that it seems to be Czech in origin. The Czech lands through the years have been heavily populated with people of German origin. My name is Macek, My G-Grandfather americanized it as (Matyas) Matchick, I have also seen it as Matschek and, Machek. I am looking for villages of origin if any of you have any ideas. For what it is worth my family seems to have a particular fondness for the name Matyas, also Mathias or Matthew. If you have a suggestion drop a note.
Bob Macek

Hi, I'm Peter Mauder, second son of Axel, son of Anny and Hans Paul Mauder. I met Jolan (Schnoo) often when I was younger, though I haven't seen her for many years now. Axel (Tom) compiled a family tree a few years ago which traces the Perutz line back as far as a Nathan Perutz in 1715 - I'm sure he'd be happy to send you a copy...

The English connection is interesting. Do you know how far the name goes back there? I have DNA matches to males from England (Jackson surname) and I know my GF and GGF came from the lands of Austrian Empire. In the states, they were from Georgia and SC. We lived in PA
