I have a grandfather named John Marcinak, who married a woman with nine children named Rose Stefaniak Tadrzak. Together they had two more children, my mother Genevieve, and a son Richard. The years 1924 1925. John is buried in Woods, Wisconsin, where he died at the VA Hospital. He's buried in that cemetery. He died alone. His wife Rose (Rozalja) Marcinak (Marciniak) died here in Michigan, buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Both died young.

I am the granddaughter of Andrew Marciniak born in Budnufka, Skalat, Ternopil, Ukraine on February 13,1887. He came to Canada at l5 yrs. of age to Montreal then to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He had one daughter Anna Marie Jaremko (Marciniak) who was born in 1914. I am looking for relatives of Andrew. He came to Canada via Austria. I notice that Rosemary lists Poland/Germany/Russia as the birthplaces of her great grandmother. It is written so, I believe, because of the various takeovers of the Ukraine. The borders and countries changed over the periods of occupation.

Please contact me by e-mail. Have you tried looking at the S.S. Index and asking for file information. Or try the various immigrant ships arriving in Pennsylvania during a specific period.

Yes, I have been very unsuccessful with much about my grandmother. I know she's buried in an unmarked grave in Detroit,MI. He second husband John is buried in Wood, Wisconsin, full honors as a soldier for the US although he immigrated here from Poland. The Marcinak-Marciniak name is one of great troubles, little found information. Its like they just showed up here in the US. I have John's social security application which gave me his parents, my great grandparents names, and where they were located, but Rose is still the big mystery.

Here's an update: After much investigating on this family name, when our immigrants travelled here not speaking proper English, the spelling was without the 'i' in Marcinak, although his son and daughter both used Marciniak as their last name, and his wife is spelled Marciniak. So both are actually correct spellings. John was buried full honors in a perpetual grave, as a US soldier, died of TB, sadly alone in a VA Hospital. His wife died thereafter shortly, leaving 9 living children to fend for themselves. The eldest daughter took in the young ones to raise, and the two older boys feeded for each other. They all grew up to be adults, but now just the last younegst two are left, in their late 70's- I'm trying to write their story before they cannot tell it. What a legacy! I never knew any grandparents on either side, they all died young, unlike many families today who are so fortunate to have many generations here.
