Just came across your message. Hope you can help. I'm looking for information on Coppin family. They moved to Margate around 1912. My grandmother Jessie Ray COPPIN (HARRIS, HARDIE). She married HARRIS around 1912; he died around 1914. She married HARDIE around 1918. They moved to Canada around 1919-1920. Moved back to Margate & my dad Desmond was born in Margate 1921. I can't find marriage information or where they shipped from or a port of entry when they went to Canada. Jessie had brothers in Margate; Edward (Ted) who moved to Canada then Michigan; Lawrence, Fredrick, Frank, who I believe stayed in Margate along with parents; James E. COPPIN and Jessie Elizabeth COUSINS. Thanks for any information

I appreciate your help anyway. Is there a site that I can check myself (that way I could pay for the cost without getting you involved)? Thanks again for your help

As you can imagine, it's much harder tracing relatives after 1901 if you are not local to that area.
That's why many people work backwards to find other branches of Descendants to see if they have further information on people being traced

Have you tried http://freebmd.rootsweb.com
for The Harris Marriage and Death
Good luck

Hi Pamela,
My ggrandfather I believe was Jessie's uncle I say this because my "Jessie Ray" father was called Edward and mother Jessie Elizabeth Cousins also married before and called Banks Jessie was born in St Saviours, Southwark and the family also lived in Wandsworth. Was she nicknamed sissy and had a daughter Bunty? Look forward to your reply.

Linda,
I'm so glad you replied. My grandmother "Jessie Ray" was born in St. Saviour in 1893. Her mother "Jessie Elizabeth" was born in Shoreditch in 1866. At some point the family did live in Wandsworth. Jessie had 4 brothers. After my dad was born in Margate, they went to Canada to be with one of her brothers Edward. He used the stage name of Ted Banks and was a stage manager. Edward (Ted) settled in Michigan and Jessie in Pennsylvania. My dad & mom divorced when I was young, so I didn't get to stay close to Jessie, so I don't recall her nickname or a daughter. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Pamela, I strongly believe we are related although I don't know much about Jessie's mum Jessie, as I said her father Edward was my ggrandfather's brother I do have their marriage certificate (Edward & Jessie) of 1st April 1888 and said son Edward Louie birth certificate.
I am in search of all my Coppin ancestors so this is also good news for me. My ggrandfathers name was Alfred and their was another brother called John all born in Southwark except John he was born in Lambeth. Jessie( mother) was married before to a William Andrew Banks but he died two years after they wed.
Please tell me if you know anything else or if you would like to ask me anything I just may know the answer.
Kind regards
Linda

This is really exciting. I also have a copy of my ggrandparents marrage cert (Jessie & Edward), also the marrage cert. of Jessie & William Banks. I haven't gotten any further than Edwards dad (William-who I think owned a butcher shop & his wife's name or nick name was Fannie). And the Coppins moved to Margate around 1912. I was trying to find information on my grandfather John Thomas Hardie. My dad seems to think they met while he (John) was stationed (he was in the Canadian Army during WWI in Ramsgate), but, all I have is my dad's birth cert. with their names on it. I can't find a marrage cert. or how they got from England to Canada. Looking forward to talking again.

Hi Pamela,
Yes ggrandfather William was a butcher and second wife Francis(fanny) ggrandmother. Is there anyway we can make real contact and exchange documents? Do you have any photo's of your grandparents? I would like to put a album together to show my grandson Do you still live in the Margate area. You say son Edward had a stage name and I have heard he sailed to America on the same ship as Chaplin.
Kind regards
Linda
