Hello Jennis: I am also researching on the McConkey name,
(mostly County Tyrone, Ireland to Ontario, Canada); I haven't
(yet) traced my line into Pennsylvania, especially before 1800. I have, however, communicated with a
researcher who does have a William McConkie born in Ireland in 1787, and locating
in Pennsylvania, and then Ohio. If you will respond to me by
email (your email address didn't appear on this message board),
I will provide her email address to you. Gena Sandy email@example.com
McConkeys of Washington Crossing
The following I recently sent to another McConkey researcher. Data is taken from DAR files.
Think I finally have the lineage of William McConkey of Washington
Samuel Conkey married Charity - who died Sep 2, 1771
William, bap. Mar 11, 1744
Jacob, bap. Sep 13 1745
John, bap. Jul 19, 1747
Anne, bap. Apr 23, 1749
Mary, bap. Mar --, 1751
Samuel, bap. Jun 10, 1753
Apparently Samuel dies before the Revolution as he is not
mentioned with brothers and father. (all had Revolutionary War
service, nothing else proved on John and Jacob. Neither are listed in
the DAR Patriot Index nor the SAR Graves Regristration)
William born Jan 22, 1744, Monmouth, NJ, died Sep 10, 1825, Montgomery

6. Lydia married William Simpson
9. James born Mar 15, 1791 married Hannah Slack, who was born Sep 15,
1793. They had William born Apr 23, 1830 who had James Feb 19, 1877.
He was still living in Montgomery Co., NY in early 1830s.
10. Jacob born Mar 15, 1793, died Jan 17, 1853 in McHenry Co. IL,
married Nancy Fowle born Nov 26, 1822. It was Nancy's second
marriage. The first to Edmond Harvey ended in divorce Sep 30, 1845 at
Walworth Co., WI. Jacob was still in Montgomery Co., NY in early
They had (1)Jay (JJ) born Jul 29, 1847 or 48 in Walworth Co.,
WI. He married Lucy A Lamphire May 27, 1875 at Floyd, IA. Lucy had
been born Nov 16, 1854 at Rockford IL. (A different source lists his
wife a Lucy V. Charles of Colorado Springs, CO.). Any way JJ had a
son Harry J. born Dec 18, 1875 married Lydia McDonald Jan 14, 1899.
They had three daughters: Maria, Ruth and Helen.
(2) Jacob born Feb 15, 1850 in McHenry Co., IL. He had a son

I believe William 1744-1825 had a total of ten children, but I have
identified only 6. Believe the others died before marriage but have
Samuel (Sr), and sons William, John and Jacob are listed in PA Archives. Samuel and William were both at Washington's Crossing then known as McConkey Crossing.
Some have claimed a Thomas born in Washington County as a son of William. As near as I can determine, William left McConkey's Crossing before 1780 and went directly to Montgomery Co., NY where he spent the remainder of his life.
The baptisms are listed in "History of the Old Tennent Church, Second edition, compiled by Rev. Frank R. symmes, George W. Burroughs, printer, Cranbury, NJ, 1904
If I can be of futher assistance let me know
I am a decendant of a Sara Virginia McConkey. One of her daughters, Hattie Leland (Musgrove) Moran, was my grandmother. My grandmother and grandfather (Hezekiah Leroy Moran) resided and died in Marion County, Fairmont, West Virginia. I am trying to find a link to other McConkey's. Especially an Andrew H.(?) McConkey who, my father says, was Sara Virginia's father. Any help you could extend my way would be greatly appreciated.GMoran44@aol.com
I have an Andrew Herbert McConkey b Dec 27, 1858 in
Minnesota, who is related to, but not in
my direct line. He is listed in research that was provided
by other researchers, There are five children
listed, however none named Sara. Of course, I don't
know if the info is complete. I do have some info on
some of his direct ancestors, and lots of his relatives.
Please contact me for more info if you believe
there may be a link. firstname.lastname@example.org
I am looking for parents and siblings of James McConkey, my g g grandfather. He married Mathilde LaPoint and they came from Canada and lived in St. Lawrence County in NY state. Had 3 children. James Jr. Mary Matilda and Eliza Belle. He was born in Vermont, 1827 or 28 moved to Canada the to NY state where he died at the age of 52. He is buried in Ogdensburg cemetery
Concerning the DAR info quoted, does the DAR ever list their sources of info or is the documentation available in their literature? I have a letter compiled from information and family history files and research by the late Mr. Irving H.McConkey, ggson of William McConkey. He lists William's wife as Hannah Burroughs. They had 3 daughters, Mary nicknamed Polly, Lydia, and Sallie. They had four sons: William Jr., James, Jacob, and John. Wm.Jr, John and Mary were born at McConkey's ferry. There is too much info for this message. Some of this may or may not conflict or add to what you have listed. The dates indicate the same persons. Also an internet site for Washington's Crossing and MCConkey's Ferry somewhere gives description of William and Hannah's burial places/tombstones or links to this info.
Sorry for not responding earlier. The application lists the source of data for direct ancestors only (normally). I do not have the source for William's children in front of me. My main interest here is showing that Thomas is not a son of William, son of Samuel, of McConkey's Ferry. However always interested in any McConkeys.
William and Hannah are buried in Montgomery County, NY. I do not have photos of tombstones.
Any info you can supply appreciated.
I am searching for info. on William McConkey born 1742 Penn. and died 1812 Shreve, OH. He married a Rachele, Rachael, or Rachelle last name unknown. I would appreciate any info. on parents and sybs. of William. Also, birth, death, and last name of his wife. The only child I have for this couple is James McConkey born July 16 or 18, 1784 and died Jan. 14, 1865 IN. married to first wife Sarah? Burt and second wife, Prudence Cook Manlove(married 4-15-1824 in Fayette Co. IN.) I could also use the birth and death stats on these two wifes. William is my 5th great grandfather and James is my 4th.
Records show that my great, great, great grandfather, according to family records, was named Jacob McConkey; he was born in Scotland in 1779. He came to the U.S. with his mother and his sister, Elizabeth, in 1801, at age 22, and settled on the South Branch of the Potomac River near Old Field, Hardy County, Virginia (later, I think, West Virginia).
Jacob and his wife, a Garrett, had a son named Jesse McConkey, born 1805, who died in 1877. Jesse married Mary Jane Law and they had five children, including son James Warden McConkey, born 1867. (West Virginia)
James married Blanche Hickman, and the two had eight children, including my grandfather, Wendell Rex McConkey, born Sept. 29, 1894. James died March 17, 1877. Wendell married Edna Farris in Big Hope, WV. They had three children, one of whom is my father, Robert P. McConkey, born Dec. 4, 1922, in West Virginia, still alive. He married Ruth L. Moyer, also still alive. Wendell died in 1967; Edna died in 1968, both in Penna.
My given name at birth in Pennsylvania was David Alan, subsequently changed to Max. I was born in 1945 and now reside in Arizona. I have two children, Lisa McConkey (b. 1965) and Aaron McConkey (b. 1971) and one grandchild, Dylan O'Toole, born to Lisa in 1997.
I am interested in any information anyone has about Jacob McConkey's roots in Scotland.
