My girlfriend is related to W.H.L. McCourtie. He did travel extensively as well as owned several trotting racing horses. He was in the Who's Who of the Trotting World in the 1920s. She has a trophy that he won in 1927. Would like to share any information you may have.

Sincerely,

Steve, please ask Wendy to contact me directly. Herb McCourtie was my grandmother's cousin and I have quite a lot of information about him. He used to visit my grandmother at our home in Durand, Michigan, before their deaths in the early 1930s. I would like to share information on all the descendants of Thomas and Cate (Doty) McCourtie with Wendy as she is the only descendant of Andrew Jackson McCourtie that I have been able to find. Please tell her that I have recently found a picture of Thomas McCourtie, and also of Cate's father, Michael Doty. I believe I have a picture of Andrew Jackson McCourtie and all his siblings, but the pictures are not identified, so I need help in idnetifying them.

Hugh, are you descended from one of the daughters of Michael Doty McCourtie, Bernice or Nellie, who married Kelly brothers? I have a considerable amount of information on the McCourties that I will gladly share with you. Also, I have been sharing large collections of McCourtie photographs with a cousin who is descended from Edith (McCourtie) Stafford and we need help identifying some of the portraits. I'm sure that there is a picture of Andrew Jackson McCourtie (Bernice and Nellie's father) in Edith's collection, but we aren't sure which of several photos is of him. If you are interested in working with us, please contact me at welch7985@yahoo.com

I am a reletive of WHL MCcourtie, he was not only a cement tycoon, He also produced alcohol during prohibition, had ties with al capone and many other high rank criminals out of chicago. If you have ever been to MCourtie park you may notice that his estate is not vivible from US12. Earlier known as chicago rd, the manor is built in the style of a rathskellor witch is tradional in Scotish archetecture. This style of homebuilding consisted of building a home into the side of a hill. Also the chimneys over the estate were discised as trees, made from steel rods and covered with cement. MCcoutie's estate was Known as a speak-easy (a place you could consume alcohol during prohibition). If any one has more info please post it. -mitch brandt

made out of cement and appeared to be trees. His estate was a common stop for gangsters traveling from chicago to detroit. -mitch brandt
