I have information on MENSINK families from The Netherlands who moved to Fond Du Lac County, Wis., and Fillmore County, MN (Preston/Greenleafton/Forestville) in 1860-1870. MENSING families may be connected to us if they were affiliated with the Dutch Reformed Church of America. -- Martha Mensink Oskvig

May have comparable information for you.
I have records for this name for nine generations
back (starting with myself). My papers show
Berent Jansen Mensink who married Hendrikjen on 4 May
1745. She was from Teeselink, Teseling, or Theseling.
This sheet also starts that 1745 marks the
beginning of the family name Mensink and Berent Jansen
adopted the name from the geographical area
Mensing.
My family rooted through Minnesota, Michigan,
and North Dakota.

Look familiar??

Yes, your family's Mensink/Mensing ancestors are included in our 200+page binder, "Mensink Family History", published in August 2001! Your mother's school essay on Mary Nash is included on pages 8 & 78. Henry B. was a son of Gerrit Jan & Henrietta (Van Vleck) Mensink; their ancestors appear on pages 1-3, and their descendents are documented on pages 76-109. On your branch we still have some dates and locations to identify, so I hope you will assist us!

I wrote almost all of the other narrative sections with Bruce Rohl compiling and continuing to update the large family database. We continue to research more on all descendants of Hendrik and Harmina Mensink who arrived with their children in America on Oct. 7, 1846. An updated edition of this "Mensink Family History" is slated for publication in Aug. 2006 (160th anniversary of this family's arrival in America). Different branches of these Mensink descendants gather annually the first Sunday of August for a potluck noon picnic (in 2002 in Spring Valley, MN, City Park).

The 2001 binder is available for purchase. Cost: $20 (submit to Bruce Rohl, 9204 425th St., Kenyon MN 55946). To share family data and information, please send e-mails directly to his address: bmrohl at clear.lakes.com !

Hi.

I came across your message concerning the name Mensing.
I myself am a descendent of that family. The name to my knowledge can be spelled Mensing/Mensingh/Mensink.
The furthest I have managed to trace back my ancestry was to a Ludolphus Mensingh, born 1565, the natural son of Johannes Ludolphus Mensingh, a preacher in Diever (eastern Netherlands).
I have managed to find extensive information about this family on the Net.

Please do not hestitate to ask for further info.

Warm regards,

Saskia Steinhorst
