Have started and compiled a good deal on the Montross family. Would like to hear from others who may be related and wanting to exchange information.

Am related to the Montrosses of Ontario, Canada from the late 1700s-early 1800s. My g-g-g-g grandmother was Hannah Montross, daughter of Peter Montross and Leah Mabie. Would like to correspond if any connections exist.

Best regards,

James Drake

My grandmother was Edna Montross, daughter of William Montross of Peekskill, NY. Edna died in 1955 in Peekskill. I understand the family came from Virginia but haven't really spent much time researching same. I also understand that their is a Montross genealogy which has been published. As I am just beginning my search I am most interested in your message and would of course be pleased to share information once I get started. Thanks

I have searched my information and do find a William Montross. However, no Edna. My information came from the Montross's by Taylor. Would be more than happy to provide what I do have. Contact me at if you wish any info.

Reply to James Drake of 8/12/99

I have searched what information I have and the only thing close is the following;

Children of John Montras and Margaret Schut are Peter Montross, born December 8, 1723, Rombout Precint near Wappinger's Falls, N.Y. Died June 28, 1746. Unforunately can find nothing further on Peter or his children.

There was a book out by Taylor that cannot be found, at least not by me. However a gentleman by the name of Irv Kraus of Canada provided me with many pages of information from it.

He is at irv.krause@sympatico Good luck

My ggg grandfather was Samuel Montross Worden
b. 1794, Clinton, Dutchess Co., NY. We
believe his mother my have been a Montross.
Do you have any clues I might follow up on?
Thanks much. Doris

I have searched through all my information at this point but can find no Worden or connection. I do have Samuel's but after 1790. If I should find anything I will let you know.

Good Luck
