Am researching my wife's family tree, surname NEWHOOK, of Trinity Bay, NFLD. There is a wealth of info on the early Newhooks from the UK in 1700's but nothing recent. I am trying to establish a link from Grandfather Ernest Newhook, born maybe 1880's, married, Gertrude Day, and had children Selby, Boyne, Ernie, (Wallace) Lloyd b 7 Feb 1918, William and Meretta to the earlier Newhooks. Ernest (the elder) moved the family to NY city in the '20s and was killed in an accident in about 1925. Would appreciate hearing from anyone with knowlwdge of this line of Newhooks.

might be able to help

My mother was Ellen Tilly of Elliston. Her Grandmother was Catherine Newhook. I would be very interested in knowing more about this family. I have been in touch with descendants in England, Aust., and various places in Canada. I also have pictures of Catherine with several generations of Tillysprobably taken in the very early 1900's.

This is an update to correct some erroneous information posted earlier.

My wife's father was Wallace Lloyd Newhook. I believe he was born in
Dildo 7 Feb 1918. His parents were William Newhook and Gertrude Day.
She may have been from Green's Harbour. William moved the family to New
York where he was killed in an accident on the docks. The mother
Gertrude brought the family back to Trinity Bay (I assume to Dildo.)
She eventually remarried to a man named Parsons. Lloyd, my wife's
father got work in the mill in Grand Falls. There were brothers, Boyne,
Selby, Ernie, William and a sister Meretta. Some of the other brothers
and sister returned to the States. Ernie Newhook was in the US Army Air
Force at Shenango Valley Post, Sharon, Pennsylvania. I believe he was
killed in WWII.

Apparently there is still a family home that everybody remembers in
Dildo but I don't know who lives there know. I am trying to sort out the
missing generations before Willaim back to the known family trees that
have been posted.

Hi!
My mother was a Newhook who came from Dildo.
William and Lloyd were second cousins.
The three are now dead. Will's wife is
still alive and also a son who married a Pinsent
in Grand Falls.
I worked with Bill & Lloyd in the mill at
Grand Falls. All the Newhooks from Newfoundland
came from Charles who came from England.
The family has a tree that goes back to the
1500ths.

Don, thanks for your reply. My wife will be interested to hear of you. Do you know any of the Newhook family connections beyond Lloyd and Bill's father William?
