I am the great-great-grandson of Gabriel and Rose Nicaise, whose son Virgil was your grandfather and whose daughter Odille was my great-grandmother. I have more info on the Nicaise family in America and France. Please contact me at stevenelson@home.com

Just wondered if Steve Nelson responded to this message. My great grandfather, Gabriel Nicaise (born in 1823), was married to Rose Bruno (born in 1831) in 1853. Their children were: Rose, Odille, Virgil and Gustave. My grandfather was Virgil (born in 1867) and he was married to Wilhemina Swigelson (born in 1870) in 1895. Their children were: Virgil, Ralph, Walter, Ferdinand, Gustave and Rosalie. My father, Ferdinand David (born in 1900) married Winifred Mae Truscott (born 1911) in 1931. I have one sibling, Walter Ferdinand (born in 1933). I, Joanne Laura, was born in 1938.

It's my understanding that Gabriel and Rose came to this country in the 1850's and traveled up the Mississippi River via New Orleans. They settled in Nauvoo, Illinois. Please let me know if there is any connection to your Nicaise family.

I have a Ralph Nicaise <b.1899-IL> who married Viginia Ridky (b.1900 - OH) in Detroit around 1921 in my Ridky line. I think he had a brother named Virgil <b.1896> married to Iva <b. 1901>

Sure sounds like we have a connection. My father, Ferdinand David Nicaise (born 1900), had three older brothers named Virgil Gabriel (born 1896), Ralph Maxwell (born 1899), and Henry Walter (born 1898). Virgil married Iva, Ralph married Virginia. Henry died in 1913.

I recall hearing that Aunt Virginia was also born in 1900 as was my dad. Offhand, I don't know Aunt Virginia's maiden name, but the date of their marriage sounds about right. Uncle Ralph and Aunt Virginia had three children Robert, Norval and Virginia.

To my knowledge, my great-grandparents, Gabriel Nicaise (born 1823) and Rose Bruno (born 1831) came to this country via New Orleans or thereabout and traveled up the Mississippi River to Nauvoo, Illinois (Hancock County) around 1854. They had 4 children: Gustave (born about 1858), Odille (born about 1864), Virgil (born about 1867), and Rose (born about 1868).

Don't know of any siblings of either of my great-grandparents.

I've heard that there is a place called Nicaise's Crossing in either Louisiana or Alabama. However, I haven't researched it. I know there are a number of Nicaise's in the Louisiana/Alabama area, but have not been able to make any connection to my family to date.

I belong to the French Nicaise Tree and I am interested in my family's genealogy.
Would you please tell me a little bit of your ancestries' history?
I have got some information about Nicaise in Alsace Lorraine. My grand father was born there in 1925.
May be there is a link.
looking forward hearing from you very soon.
