I am looking for some information about my grandfather and his family. His name was John Albert Nolte and he died in 1977. Basically I know that he came over on a boat when he was 7 years old with his parents from Germany. He married Wanda Hooks and had two daughters together. He lived in Kentucky and Tennessee most of his life. If anyone has any information about my grandfather or his family please respond back to me at my email address. thanks

I am not sure if there is a connection by my g-g-grandmother's maiden name was NOLTE. They were also from Germany but arrived much earlier in the 1860s. I have been told that most of the German Nolte's are related. My NOLTE'S settled in KY.

I just happened to notice your response. My grandfather was Otto Nolte, who spent most of his life in Minnesota and/or Iowa. He was also a descendant of a Nolte that came to the U.S. from Germany. That ancestor was one of nine siblings, six of whom came to the U.S. in the early 1800's (I'm not sure of the exact year off the top of my head, but I have much more data that I can refer to when I'm not at the office). I have a cousin who was in the military and was stationed in Germany many years ago who was able to track down descendants of the three siblings who remained in Germany. My great-great-grandfather also happens to be Nick Nolte's ancestor, too.....which makes us third cousins. I also have Ferguson relatives which settled in eastern Tennessee (with perhaps some branches in Kentucky, too), but genealogy data for Dad's side of the family is scarcer than the Nolte side, in part due to a fire in a Tennessee courthouse which destroyed some birth/death records. However, there is a book entitled "Cradled by the Massanutten" which was written by a woman in Virginia who traced scores of family trees from the Tennessee/Virginia area, including the surnames of: Armantroudt, Sellars (with variations the include Sellers and Zellers), Ferguson (and others). My parents have a copy of this book and I can get its Library of Congress Catalog number if you would like to research it further.

I just found your message. I am sorry i took so long to reply but I do not have internet and home so I must use the connection at work during my lunch or break time. I work in a public library so sometimes I do not get the opportunity to check all my queries. (I have serveal going.) I would like to keep in touch so we can solve this Nolte mystery. I will gather what information I have about Dora and pass it on. Off the top of my head, (I am at work) I believe she was the daughter of William Frederick NOlte and Catherin Gulsman (some say Hulsman). I believe this is the Americanized version of their names. Dora was born in Sandeback Gemany and was in the US in by 1865-70 when she gave birth to her first two daughters Emma Laura and Lizzie Crump. The family can find no record of a Mr. Crump. She remarried William Kottkamp and gave birth to several more children. Laura eventually became my G-gramdmother and we have lost track of what happed to her only full sibling Lizzie. They could have been twins but this is only heresay. My. Kottkamp was also from Germany. Keep in touch. Email me directly if you wish. I do check my email daily.

Gladys,
I know your post is 8 yrs old but hoping this still connects to you.
do you know more about your nolte family that came over from Germany? Names of those who came over would be a help with my search. approximate dates of arrival, or birthdates. My G-G-G Grandfather John Otto Nolte came over from Germany. I do not know when I do know when he married but did marry Engel Marie Fischer who was also from Germany. She is buried in Arlington Heights, Ill.
