Hi, my name is Joanne and my dad is Stanley Odze, his father was Louis Odze. Louis' father was Adolph Odze, he was born in Austria. We received a phone call from a Alan Odze in New City, New York. He confirm that Odze is a Hugarian name and that the name Odze is very very uncommon and believes through his research that all odzes are related. Please send me any pertinent information that may connect us. My father Stanley Odze grew up in Brooklyn, New York. His father Louis was a teacher of music, and eventually opened up an appliance store. My father continued working in the appliance business and now my brother Richard Odze (who lives in Melville, Long Island, New York is overseeing the business.

I also have another brother named Bruce Odze, who lives in San Francisco, CA.

My father had 2 brothers, one deceased Jerome Odze (1964) and Harvey Odze who lives in New Jersey.

My name is Marcel FEIG,my mother was Regina Odze born in Satoraljaujhely ,Hungary in 1910,she passed away in 1992 .Her fathers name was Odze Rubin,he was deported in 44 and died in Auschwitz at the age of 84.His father was named Simon Odze, and died in 1918 at the age of 82 and is buried in Satoraljaujhely. I think that Simons father was named Kalman. They where orthodox jews.I am born in Antwerp,Belgium in 1941 and live actually in Jerusalem.I ordered recently from a hungarian genealogical society a genealogical research about my family.I should have a reply in 2 or 3 months.I think that because the name ODZE is so rare they should be able to do the work especially because their are still existent archives and census from 150 years ago.

Thank you for your email. As we suspected, the name odze is very unusual. My dad Stanley recalls his grandparents prounouncing the name odze as oodzer. I will check my research and see if any of the names you mentioned are cited. I do believe that we must all be related. My father was brought up Orthodox and his parents did speak Yiddish.

It will be so interesting to see what the hungarian society has on the name odze.
By the way, if you have every listened to Judy Collins, the singer, my cousin, Warren Odze played drums with her for many years. He and his wife Joyce live in Monroe, NY and have 2 girls.

Look forward to your next email.

Marcel,
This is really great. I am Joanne's cousin. My father was Jerome Odze. The oldest of 3 brothers. Died in 1964. The name is so unusual and have always wondered how many Odze's there were. Thank you for filling in some info.

Great to hear from you!

Hi, this is pretty awesome, huh. Dad got a call from a man in NY (a jewish policement no less). He is an Odze and truly believes that the Odze name is not shorten or anything was changed. Dad was so excited to talk to him, I forget his name offhand, but he called me at work. So, I registered on familhistory and did a search on the name odze, there are a few back east.

I found a Leah Odze (she has another last name, but she works in the one of the major book publishing companies, so I am putting her on my list to contact to see if she has any background info on her family.
There is another woman in Israel who also is an Odze and has a request in Austria for any records regarding the name Odze, I am still waiting to hear from here.

Dad remembers his parents pronouncing the name Odze as OOdzer. So you were right when you did check out the name in Hungary, it is a hungarian name.

I promise to keep you posted. P.S. I did find some info on Warren on the web also (related to music) it was pretty cool.

Hope you and Alan are well and I bet Jonathan is a really big guy! Is he getting ready to pick colleges, etc. Please keep in touch with me at my email address. If you would like, mom and dad's email are lolajo@aol.com. I know they would love to hear from you as well. I hope Aunt Selma is doing well, she periodically does call mom and sends cards, so that is a good sign.

Love your cous, Joanne
