My side of the Orick family is from Tishomingo
County, and North west Alabama. I'm starting
this project with my Great Grandfather, Oscar
Orick of Dennis, MS. Any information will be
a help.

my grandfather was James Woolum Orick and was born in Kentucky, his father was A.V. Orick and was born in Tenn., My grandfather was 1 of 7 children, brothers were, Ed, Reed and sisters, Alice, Martha,Bertha and a half sister, Sally. I am told that his family came from Scotland, when,I'm not sure of...he always said that they were "Black Dutch"...he was a Baptist minister in Ky., and they moved to Ohio in 1952.they had 4 children, Alice, Francine, Doris, and Abner. Francine is my mother. I hope that this may be of some help... the Orick name is special to me...My grandfather and grandmother were the best people in the world..

I recently have been told that the Orick name has many spellings. Orrick, Ouark, Aurick, among others. We apparantly came from Scotland and fought with William Wallace. 2 Brothers or a Father Son came to America soon after Wallace was killed. The Oricks are even mentioned in the movie Braveheart, so I'm told. I haven't gone back seen it again. I'm just beginning to search so I'll share what I learn.

My husband's g'father was Alvis Franklin Orick also from TN. His brother was Fred Orick, I believe, from Lafollette.
My f-in-law, Charles (deceased) always told my husband and his siblings they were "black dutch". My f-in-law was Pentecostal, but the A.V. Orick, TN, seems so closely connected, I could be wrong. If you want info, just let me know.
My husband doesn't know very much about his family, just as I do not know about mine.
thanks.
