I am trying to get any info possible about my mothers mother Maryanna Pietras - she was married and had 2 children before marrying my grandfather Michael Starzyk-we are not sure whether Pietras was her maiden name or her married name - she was born in Austria and came here from Poland around 1890-1900 - they lived in Chicopee Mass where my mother was born in 1909 (the youngest of the 7 children they had together) then moved to Springfield till they came to Michigan around 1914.

I do not know of a Maryanna Pietras. My grandfather was Adam Pietras and he lived in Chicopee Falls. Born in 1881 (I think) and died in 1967. I know he came over in the early 1900s. He was from a town called Mielec, in the region of Tarnow. I visited the town last summer and found a grave for a Wladaslaw Pietras.

Susan - Read your message regarding your grandfather - it seems he was born around the time my grandmother was - do you know if he had any sisters??? Since I am not sure if Pietras was my grandmothers maiden name or married name before she married my grandfather, I wonder if your grandfather was married before he married your grandmother? In other words if they were related ( possible since they both lived in Chicopee MA )it could be by birth or marriage?? She could even have been a sister-in-law - obviously many possibilities! Any help would be appreciated - I was also happy to get the info you gathered while in Poland! Will be checking on that. Thank you Joyce
