My grandfather, Alois, had a brother, Jack, a brother who died in WWII named Edmund, and a Sister in Germany. My father's name was also Edmund. My grandparents were marriend in 1945, when Alois was 39 years old. If you have any information, please email me.

My husband is a Rothlander, his family has said they came from germany, in fact running away from the SS during WWII. His Grandfather's Name was Julius, and he changed that to Julian when he came across with his first wife to canada.

My husband is a Rothlander. Although I do not know the history, he did have an uncle Julian.

Becky, I do believe that our husbands are brothers. They not only have an uncle Julian, but also their Grandfather.
Small world running into you here.

Hi Guys,

I was born in Vancouver Canada to John and Felicitas Rothlander. My father was born near Frankfurt, Germany and had two brothers. Willy and Robert with a sister by the name of Lottie. I have lived in Alberta and British Columbia Canada for most of my life but now live in New Zealand.

We don't have any other relatives that we knew of in Canada. And its strange to see other people with the same last names :)

In the US there seems to be 3 distinct strands:
There are a bunch in TX and their relatives date back to the civil war;

Julian's in NJ who came through NY...They are listed on the census as Russian Jews--He donated to the holocaust museum, and his name is listed as one of the patrons.

Then Alois/Jacob's in NJ who are not related to Julian. The furthest I got was that Alois' father was Godfried/mother Elizabeth. Have any more info would be appreciated.

I think we are talking about a different Julian, but who knows because its a frustrating search at best.

A couple of years ago my husband actually called 6 different people in the Us with our last name. He found out that way the same about the three different strands, and the different religious backgrounds. Its interesting.

My new email is rothlander@digistar.mb.ca
