Sallaz Descendants

Looking for descendants of Ferdinand Sallaz and his brother Marc who arrived in the US aboard the Austerlitz in New Orleans in 1835. I'm not sure where Marc settled down but I think it was in Louisiana considering the amount of Sallazes in LA. Ferdinand went to New York to learn English and settled in the Ohio River Valley of West Virginia (it was Virginia at the time). He married Sarah Reynolds, the daughter of Reuben Reynolds. Our Reuben Reynolds was NOT married to Elizabeth Thomas and was NOT the son of John Reynolds. He was married to Jean (Virginia) Tanner and was the son of Benjamin Reynolds. Ferdinand and Sarah's first bon son, Augustus, was my great-grandfather.

Surnames: Sallaz, McKown
My Great Grandfather was Vincent Sallaz. He married Angie McKown near Ripley WVA and together had 9 children. At some point, they moved to Thurston, OH where they lived the rest of their lives. Angie and Vincent were laid to rest in the Shinn-Fairplain (WVA) Cemetery. I have one portrait of Vincent and another picture of him with 6 of his brothers. Unfortunately, the back of the picture says that 'Guss went out West'. So, the photo was taken after Augustus had moved to Missouri. The picture is rather faded and I need to have it restored. I would be happy to share it with you after it is finished. If you have an updated family history, I would love to see it. I have a copy of one that was done 15 - 20 years ago and I'd love to update it. Thanks for starting the message board!!

Becky,

Yes! I would love to see the picture of my great-great uncles! I thnk my father also would love to see this picture.

I really don't have much history on the Sallazes that came to Missouri, yet. I am working on it.

I am so looking forward to finding cousins I never knew about. I regret not listening to the stories my grandparents had when they were alive. Every time I call my parents I drag another story from their lips (it's not hard, everyone likes to talk about their childhood and their parents and grandparents). I share them with my children, luckily enthusiasm for familial history catches their attention and they love to hear the stories.

Becky,
I have lost your email address. My husband died in the spring of 2007 and I have taken the past year off from just about everything except work. But I am back and getting going on things agin. The computer I was using for my genealogy crashed in the loast year and was otally wasted. Anyway, lesson learned, download everything to hard copy and get myself a secure space online to store things. In the meantime (sheepish grin here) I lost the wonderful picture you sent of my great-great uncles and would love to have it again. I do have a picture of Augustus around here somewhere that as soon as I get my scanner hooked up I will post.

Hi Dawn,

So sorry for your loss and sorry for the delay in response. I haven't checked for updates in a while and just happened to check tonight. This past year, I received a much better copy of the picture from one of our relatives in West Virginia. In addition to the portrait of the brothers, I have attached a photo of a young Vincent Sallaz. I hope that all is going well. I have a new e-mail. Sallazgen@pwohio.com. Would love it if you shared info about Augustus side of the family. Take care, Becky
