Dennis Sasse, Box 90 Griswold IA 51535 is related to August A. Sasse, born Posen Prussia Dec. 10 1852. August was the youngest of 8 children. So far Dennis and I have not discovered how we may be related. My great-grandfather, Michael Sasse was born 1844 in Breslau, Silesia (now Wroclaw, Poland). But then Sasse is not a common name so somewhere, somehow, we are probably kin. If you would like more info on my Grandfather's family please e-mail me. Thanks!

My grgrandfather was, by 1870 WI Fed census, b. in POSEN, but I don't know the village. He emigrated to WI between 1850-1853, with wife Wilhelmine Rack and sons Ernest Edward and Herman Julius. He purchased land in Marquette Co. (Stevens Point?) 1857. My grandfather, Henry, was b. 1868, (Oskosh, WI. to August's 2nd wife, Christina Rose. His older sister married Hermann Doege, and I have found that surname in Evangel. Churchbooks in Kolmar, Posen, Pru. Most of this family stayed in WI or so. MN, Blue Earth. I am seeking his birthplace to try to narrow down emigration date.
Some moved to southern CA, one to ORegon coast.

Dear Joan, Please forgive my tardiness in replying...have been traveling and catching up since. I am trying to recall if I gave you the address of Dennis Sasse whose ancestor(s) originated in Posen, Prussia? I would be very happy to share that with you if I have not. My ggrandfather came 1868 from Breslau, Prussia (today Wroclaw, Poland). He was Michael Sasse. I would suspect that those two ggfathers may have been related? what do you think? Nancy Sasse Sasser

I have searched POSEN KOLMAR (Chodziez Poland, now) forentries of birth, deth, confirm. and marriages between 1816 and 1859 but have come up
nothing for Sasse at all, so looks like I need to search in Brandenburg (a suggestion from another Sasse researcher who found his family there. I do not know how to narrow down a search in Brandenburg, but woul;d ask if other researchers have come across that name in their searching.

I have seen Michael Sasse in another microfilm on Nauhasen, I think it is. But I believe I need to find a site or films for researching Numarkt, Brandenburg. Any suggestions.

Yes, Nancy Sasse Sasser,
I would like very much to have Denise' address since she has found her family in POSEN, which is what the WI 1870 fed census said was the birthplace of my August Sasse, in 1816. Also, I am interested in your Sasse background.

Thanks in advance for responding,

Joan

Herman Doege was my husband's great grandfather on his mother's side of the family. Herman was born in Germany (I believe in Alsace) He was married to Amelia? from Wisconsin. They had at least one child, Lydia Emma Doege born 2/15/1877 in Blue Earth City MN. I have this information from Lydia's birth certificate. Lydia was my husband's maternal grandmother. Lydia married Floyd (Floid) Shultis from Blue Earth. Susan Peden

State and a daughter, Mrs. T. Coleman. I think there were at least 2 more daughters: Esther and Opal, both kin, prob. granddaughter's of Amelia Sasse Doege and Hermann. I would like to pursue the mystery? with Susan.

Sorry for the typos in last message (12/7/99).
Should have been Hermann Doege, not Goege, and Sasse, not asse. I would like Susan to communicate with me about her vital records or mar. certificate for Lydia Doege. Thanks, Joan my grandfather Heinrich Sasse was Amelia Sasse's younger brother, born in Winnebago CO, WI.

Nancy Sasse Sasser,
I think, if your Sasse ancestor came from Posen Prussia (and certainly mine did, but he was born 1816 and came with two sons, Eduard Ernst and Herman Julius, to WI between 1850-53. He did have a son who left WI and didn't settle in MN like the others did..he went either to IN or IA. What kreis or county/district in Posen, Prussia was your Michael from. I found one in Nauhasen. Also, I was told that Ernst may have come from Brandenburg.
