I'm interested in information on the Scharnhorst family who came from Hanover to St. Louis through New Orleans in the mid 1800's.

I am descended from Dorothea Scharnhorst b. 25 Dec 1838 in Germany. She married William Heumann on 3 Apr 1861 in Quincy, Adams, Illinois. I am trying to find Dorothea's parents. Also, I have portions of a book which contains some information on Scharnhorsts in Missouri. Around the mid-1800's there are Scharnhorsts in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

My great great grandmother had a sister named Dorothea Scharnhorst who was b. Jan. 1, 1825 in Hanover, Germany, the dau. of Christian and Dorothea(nee Kragel) Scharnhorst. She married John Schnackenberg in Iowa and they farmed the rest of their lives in German Twp., Keokuk Co., Iowa.
She emigrated with her parents and sister, Mary to St. Louis through New Orleans and then up to Iowa. I would not be surprised if Dorothea and Mary had other siblings who emigrated to America I just don't know about them. My ancestor, her sister Mary married Louis Schnackenberg, the brother of John, and they farmed neighboring farms. Both Mary and Dora lived to be very old. I am interested in the book that has info on Scharnhorsts. I would also like to know if you can connect this info to any that you have. Maybe your Dora is a child of a brother to Mary and Dora and a grandchild to Christian and Dorothea. I also have been told that Germany had a ship named the Scharnhorst during one of the World Wars. I've never checked into it.

Heinrich Scharnhorst, born 1816, died 28 Sept. 1880, buried Jordan, MN Spirit Hill Cemetery. His plot is between Friedrich Dierks and Dora (Louisa) Dierks (my great grandparents). Does anyone have information if he is related to the Dierks or any info at all re Heinrich Scharnhorst?

Heinrich Scharnhorst, born 1816, d. 28 Sept. 1880, buried Jordan, MN cemetery between my great grandparents Friedrich and Dora Dierks. Could he be related to the Dierks -- or possibly Dora (Louisa) Dierks was a Scharnhorst?? Dora (Louisa) was born in Hanover 21 June 1814.

We must be thinking alike, I was going to post the same message. I'll keep looking here, hoping Heinrich Scharnhorst had an obit in the local paper.

I have a Friedrich Heinrich Christian Scharnhorst b. before 1830 who was the son of Christian Scharnhorst and his wife, Catharina Dorothea Kragel. The parents and two dau., Dora (b. 1825) & Mary (b. 1830) emigrated from Germany, arriving in New Orleans Jan. 1, 1845. There was another brother also, Christian m to Fredericka Neubauer. I don't know if they emigrated at the same time. I'm descended from Mary. If you can link your Friedrich and ours please let me know.
