Looking for great grandfather x 3, who was the father of John Pool Schermerhorn, potter,
of Schodack NY and then Richmond VA (1810). Cornelius reportedly was born and died in
Schodack. Approx. date of birth 1745-1765, approx. date of death 1805-1825. J.P. Schermerhorn
may have been an apprentice in NY/NJ as a brickmaker, stoneware maker or potter prior
to relocating to VA. This family may have had Pool or Vanderpoel connections,
though these are not known. Rennselaer/Columbia/Albany Counties New York would
be the central search area. Don't know the name
of any of J.P. Schermerhorn's brother or sisters, aunts or uncles.

I have a Cornelius Schermerhorn b. 1756 in my database. I have not proven this information at all so use it with extreme caution. Father listed for Cornelius
is Johannes (John) A. and mother is Sarah Cannon. Father of John is listed as Arnout bp Albany, 1686 and Maria Beekman, mother. Armout's father is in the data as Symon Jacobese Schermerhorn b. 1658, Albany; mother was Willempji Viele. I have an interesting not about this family being in the Schenectedy raid during the French and Indian War. Parents of Symon are listed as Jacob Janse Schermerhorn and
Jannetie Egmont . This is where we connect in the Schermerhorn line IF the information I have is correct. Jacob also had a son named Lucas. Lucas had a daughter named Sophia (Sofya) who became my 6th great-grandmother by marrying Abraham Selover (Slover). If you think this is your Cornelius, I can send you more information on some of the families, but I have nothing on Cornelius except his birth year.

This is not my information. Somebody did a lot of hard word and is not getting credit for it. Unfortunately, I did not put down the source for some reason.

You can email me at LBobina@aol.com I might not think to check the Schermerhorn message board often.
