Rod,

Good evening. There are many spellings of this Schlabach name. Primarily, Schlappach, Schlabbach, Slabach, Slaybaugh and Slayback. The origins of our family in America appears to start with the arrival of Johannes Schlappach and family to Philadelphia in 1733 aboard the good ship Pink Mary. The family lived in New Jersey and then eventually into Pennsylvania/Ohio and Kentucky/Illinois/Missouri and some to California.

Descendants of Johan Schlappach

Generation No. 1

1. JOHAN1 SCHLAPPACH was born 1661 in Eriz, Thun District, Switzerland. He married VERENA RUCHTY. She was born Abt. 1669. (Some family are undecided between Ruchty and Duchti) I choose Ruchty

Child of JOHAN SCHLAPPACH and VERENA RUCHTY is:
2. i. JOHANNES2 SCHLABBACH, b. 1690, Hunspach, Alsace, France; d. Aft. 1733, possibly Pennsylvania.

Generation No. 2

2. JOHANNES2 SCHLABBACH (JOHAN1 SCHLAPPACH) was born 1690 in Hunspach, Alsace, France, and died Aft. 1733 in possibly Pennsylvania. He married MARIA ELIZABETH ? Abt. 1719 in Zweibrucken, Alsace, France.

Children of JOHANNES SCHLABBACH and MARIA ? are:
i. JOHAN HEINRICH "JOHN HENRY"3 SLAYBACK, b. 1715.
ii. HEINRICH "HENRY" SLAYBACK, b. 1717.
3. iii. DAVID SLAYBACK, b. 1720, Alsace, France; d. April 04, 1791, New Jersey.
iv. DOROTHEA SLAYBACK, b. 1728.

My line comes from David (Tewald). I believe the William you mentioned comes from Heinrich.

I've been researching my husband's SCHLEBACH in Brecknock Twp., Lancaster County, PA. After reading about this family online, the fact that they came on the Mary in 1733, that Henry settled in Northampton County, etc. and now I am confused. I have the will of Henry SCHLABACH in Brecknock Twp., 1793, and he seems to fit the bill of the Henry who went to Northampton. Here is the abstract. His wife, Elizabeth, by the way, is buried in Muddy Creek Cemetery (his stone is probably too hard to read) and she was born 1725, died 1823. WILL of Henry SCHLABACH, written 3 Jan. 1793, Proved 29 Aug. 1793, Abstracts of Lancaster County Wills, 1786-1820. Of Brecknock Township. Henry SCHLABACH. Wife. Elizabeth SCHLABACH. Children: George, Christopher, Catharine, wife of Henry WEITH, Dorothea, wife of Jacob ZELLER, Catharine, wife of Peter BLASER, Barbara, Philip and John. Ex. John and Christopher SCHLABACH. Brecknock Twp. My husband's line is son, Christopher who died 1857 in Brecknock. Christopher's brother, John, had a son William born about 1808-1810. Who is this Henry who died 1793 in Brecknock? He was having children as early as 1743 until 1770.

I am a direct descendant of Joseph Schlappach, b 1788 in Keudell Germany although he was living in Alace before coming to the states. He married Elizabeth Hershberger in Maryland and settled there. d1862 in Gortner Md. Any chance his name comes up in your research? I cant seem to come up with his parents or ancestors names and have hit a brick wall. Thanks, Cindy
