I have the Schusses you mentioned in my tree. In my endeavor to find info on Ellis, I did notice a Joseph Schuse in Philadelphia, I think. He was born in Russia.

You don't happen to have Neelys in your tree do you? Eloise Schusse married Robert Ed Lee Neely the youngest brother of my great great grandfather, Thomas Neely.

Robert Ed Lee Neely who was married to Elouise Schusse was the youngest child of John Neely and Frances Hernandez. His oldest brother Thomas was my great great grandfather. I am reading the Mobile Genealogical Societies Tombstone Inscriptions: Catholic Cemetery, Mobile Alabama. There is one Doris Rita Schusse (b. January 13, 1902-August 31, 1957) buried there in Section C, lot 10. She is with 5 unmarked concrete slabs. I do not know who they are.
I had noticed Josephine using the surname Schultz and was unsure if that was her maiden name. Thank you for clearing that up. I did not know that Ellis had been married so many times. I thought Josephine was the mother of Elouise. Thank you for the corrections!

Have you been to the mobile county probate website? There is a marriage record there where it is spelled Chieusse, I believe. It has Ellis marrying a Josephine Sara or Sera. I don't know much except that Eloise Theresa Schusse married Robert Edward Lee Neely, who was the youngest child of John Neely and Frances Hernadez (my 3x great grand parents). Robert and Eloise had one daughter Bertha Marie who married George Otto Hines. I don't know what happened to him, if he was a white man or if he was the musician George "Bobo" Hines, who traveled the globe playing in a jazz band. Would you happen to know about that?

If you are here in Mobile, the Friends of Catholic Cemetery would love to have you. We have a website and a fb group. Currently we are restoring about 60 graves. Recently we unearthed one we did not know was there. I think but I am not certain, Elouise and Robert are buried in Magnolia Cemetery. Tighe Marston is the director there and is very helpful.

P.S. Someone needs to claim next of kin for Doris' grave site. In the event we need to ask regarding repairs or unearth additional vaults, it is nice to know someone still cares. Not to mention if there burial room available four additional family members.

There is also a Schusse Lane near the Catholic Cemetery. And the University of South Alabama Archives http://www.usouthal.edu/archives/ may have some things. While the Erik Overbey collection doesn't have any Schusse photos listed online, They do have some group photos listed as R. Schultz and Mrs. W. H. Shultz, Shutts and Shutz in the glass negative collection. I don't know if they are actually family members though. Unfortunately, the staff at the library like for you to be there in person for a proper viewing.
