My husband's great grandmother was Cora Alice Scritchfield. In some of his genealogy the name is spelled Critchfield and Crihfield (I guess it depended on how whomever was taking the records spelled it).
Can we help each other? Barbara

You are grandmother was a Scritchfield it showed up as
Critchfield only one generation back...If this branch of the family is from
W.Va. or western PA. then I can help you there is a book of geneology already
written.....I believe even John Wilkes Booth shows up in that one...Let me know if I can help

I'm very interested in finding out more about this "book of Scritchfield."
My mother (Mary Joann Scritchfield) would like more information about her father's family, he died when she was very young, and she became estranged from the Scritchfields when her mother (Evelyn Grace Anderson) remarried...his name was James Delbert Scritchfield (b1915?, d1938) from Fairmont WV. I don't know much else, besides that fact that my mother tells a story that their name was spelled Critchfield but pronounced "Scritchfield" and a teacher in the U.S.(her father's? grandfather's?) kept mispronouncing it, and so that person added an S at the beginning so it would look as it was pronounced.
The family is from Austria.
If anyone has any information about this family, please contact me, it would mean so much to my mother.
Thanks, Myella

There is only one person that I know who could possibly help you...
If you email me privately I will give you all the info I have or I can direct you to what I know
My grandmother was a Scritchfield and I believe she only had one brother...His nick name was Penny
The whole Scritchfield clan is actually not from Fairmont exactly but a small coal town called Urnshaw ( it really is Frogtown but NO Scritchfield would admit this)
The cukture and heritage of this family is wonderful..whether your grandfather was my great uncle or a cousin removed there is much to be proud of from this coal mining family...
Hope to hear from you..Lea
