This is for Brian... looking for info. on Duane. Don't know if it helps, but I found a Duane Shedden listed in Gillett. Phone 596 2338. Maybe it will help, maybe not. Not that it matters, I was born a Shedden but put up for adoption in 1963...

I have begun to collect information on the Sheddens with origins 1600-1700 in North Ayrshire,Scotland. They travelled a lot, and had trading interests in Virginia,Carolina, the West Indies and Holland.Anyone else interested? Jim Dale.

My Great Grandfather was James Shearer Shedden, born possibly in Glasgow in 1865. Migrated to Canada, married Elizbeth Hewton and they moved to San Bernardino, where they raised a family and are buried. I have their marriage certificate, June 19, 1888, Kingston, Ont. Can.I have no other ancestry information, but am researching both at this time.

James Shearer Shedden is not known to me but I have added him to "the wanted list" Is there any way you can narrow down the search area of his birth ?

The obit for James Shearer Shedden states that he was a native of Glasgow, Scotland. His marriage certificate states LANARK as the place of birth. I have a receipt from a visit he made to Glasgow in 1911; my great aunt said he went to visit family on that trip, but we have no information about parents or siblings or who he went to visit. He came home with a paper brochure about the Clan of Murray; showing a sample of the tartan, but he never spoke about his clan relationship or the tartan, that I recall. I do remember that he used many Gaelic words, calling me "Margaree" instead of the usual Margaret. He died when I was a teenager and of course, I didn't realize until later just how many of his Scottish words I had ignored. He raised my father, but even my father said he never heard him talk much about his relatives back in Scotland. He was an active Mason and I am trying to research information from his Masonic records at this time. Thank you for your interest and for adding his name to the wanted list.

Dear Laura,

Of course it matters! 1963. My goodness. My own daughter, Heather, was born that year but I don't know who your Shedden parent might be. I could ask some of my cousins who grew up in that area if you would like me too. My email address is wct2@digital.net. I live in Florida. My mother was a Shedden from Bradford County, Pennsylvania. That is the Troy, Canton, Granville Summit, Towanda, Gillet area. the family is very large with lots of branches.
I can't promise results but I can tell you lots about the family.

Sincerely,
Jean Cole Taylor

I am the Granddaughter of Isabelle Shedden
who came to the U.S. in 1919. She was the
daughter of Martin Thomas Peterson Shedden
and Euphremia Robb Lillie Shedden. I know
that she had at least 5 other siblings. I
have their names in my research. She lived and
worked in Glasgow and Lanark as did her father.
MTP Shedden was born in Glasgow and his father
was born in Ayrshire. I have more if this looks
like it might tie to your family.
