Anyone related to the Sochors - Rose (married Joe Skowronski), Stella, Mary, Charlie, Emil. I think their father's name was Frank and he married Rosalie (nee Novotny)

Father's name was not Frank; it was Carl (maybe with a "K").

I know something about the Sochors from Morrison County, MN. They lived in and around Bowlus. Is that your group?

The Sochor surname is very unusual. My father is Harold E. Sochor from MI. His mother was Anna Lipar and his father was Paul Sochor. They were married 1921. Any relation? Oh, some of my aunts and uncles Marion, Stanley, Charlie, Nancy.

My mother's name is Sochor. Her father John Sochor emigrated to American from Slovakia. He was born on November 11, 1881 in Jamnik, Slovakia and died on April 9, 1964 in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. Some of his sisters also emigrated to America, Mary (married George Fatula), Sophie (married an Oravec), and Susan. The village of Jamnik is where our Sochor branch is from. The cemetary there is full of Sochors who aren't directly related to me but I guess they might be if we went back far enough. In a ships passenger list I found the name Emil Sochor who emigrated to America in 1891.

Same tree different branch?

Hello,
I am a "second generation Sochor". My grandfather (on my dad's side of the family, came over to the states from Prague around the early 1920's. His name was Gustav (Gus). He settled in the Chicago area, and with the "help" of my grandmother produced two children, one of which was my father, Donald, and the other, my aunt Nancy.

they in turn stayed in the chicago area, producing three children in each of their respective families. Nancy had two girls Laurie and Lisa, and one son, Eric. At this time I have no idea where any of them reside. (slight rift in the family tree so to speak). However to the best of my knowledge all are alive and healthy.

My dad, Don, had three kids as well. Two boys, Guy and Gary, and one girl, Cree.
To the best of my knowledge we are all alive and healthy as well.

My brother had one son Aaron, currently serving in the Air Force stationed in Korea.

I have three sons. They reside with their mother in Ws. My oldest is going to the University of Minn (this is his freshmen year). The other two, Patrick and Robert, are in High school and grade school respectively.

Hope that helps with the development of the family tree....or at least with a different branch of it.

By the way, there is a small group of Sochors out in the Ventura county area of CA. Another group resides just south of the Dallas Ft Worth area of TX. I have talked with them a few years back and my understanding is they came from upper NY state, with roots back to Czechoslovcia.

Hope this helps

G. Sochor

Rebecca, My grandmother was Sophia Socher Oravec. I'm trying to find out some information about the family that I don't have. I recognize your last name and also knew some of that family, but I would like to know more about what boat they came over in and what year. Please contact me if you have anymore info. Thank you.

I really don't know. My g-grandfather married Rosalie Novotny on the boat coming over. Rosalie's uncle was Antonin Novotny. My g-grandparents settled in Cleveland, OH and opened up a grocery store/bar. They had children Rose (my grandmother - born 1899 - who married Joseph Skowronski), Emil, Stella, Jim, Charlie, Mary. Rosalie died young and Charles re-married a Dvorak. In the 1910 census, Charles is listed with the children.

My mother is Zelma Sochor Lyons. Her father was John and her mother was John's 1st wife.
I remember an article that mom had about Dutsen Orvac being killed in the war.
