Hi! I don't know of many Solanas in the states so maybe we have some common ancestors. I know my father's father (Ignacio) was a Solana. He was originally from Spain, but lived in Cuba for several years in the fifties. Unfortunately I have no other information on him as he died when my dad was four years old. Please let me know of any details you have as to your name's origin. I would very much like to find out more about the Solana history.

My Grandmother is a Solana and her family of Solanas and Salonos came from Spain to Spanish St. Augustine, Florida. The family has been there since and it was the first spanish family here.

What part of Spain exactly does your grandmother come from? My dad told me that his father was from The Castille region of northern Spain. I know his father also had a few brothers and sisters too.

My family came down from the mountains of Monte Jurro, came out of the valleys of the Kingdom of Navarre and crossed the wide Atlantic to the shores of Spanish Florida where they settled. It is a First Spanish Family in St. Augustine. Are you from Spain?

No, I'm Amercan born and raised (NYC). My dad is Cuban, although his father is a Solana from Spain. His father had light eyes and hair, with fair skin. My grandmother, on the other hand is Afro-Cuban. She and my grandfather met in Cuba in the mid to late 40s. Not much is known about my grandfather since he commited suicide when my dad was 5 years old (in Cuba). They lived in the town of Santiago de Cuba. I take my fair skin from my mom who is Puerto Rican. I do have some black qualities, however. I have some beauty marks on my face that my grandmother says are typical of Spainiards.

Ramon,
Do you have a FAX machine you can access
for some of the papers I have or perhaps an
E-mail address.

The Solana Family history in the United
States is one of the oldest known records.
Don Vencenti Solana arrived St. Augustine
Florida in the late 1500's, married Francesca
Peres in July 4, 1594. They had two
children: Alonso and Maria.

The Solana Familyoriginated in the Kingdon
of Navarra, south of Estella, in the Valley
of Solana, Spain. From there they spread to
many parts of the country:Leon, Castile, and
Badajos to name a few. Many of the Solana's
now live in La Solana Spain, south of
Madrid. In the Valley of Solana, they had
a Manor called "Solana" or sometimes
"Montejurra". They derived their name and
nobility from the Roman Caesers after these
Emporers had taken control of Spoain before
the year 1100.

They had a "Coat of Arms": Asun of gold on
a deep blue field and surrounded this was
eight green serpents heads, sprinkled with
gold on a field of gold.

Onw connection to the family was Don Juan
Jose Solana, Marquis of Sorroca, Admiral and
Commander of the Spanish Fleet.

Many Families of Solana were: Sanchez-ridalgo
, the Armendarez, the Arostegui, de Torres,
Jacinta, de Serrano, Crespo and de Etienne.

More to come if you want.
