Anyone out there researching Swoffers? My family moved to London from Kent in the mid 19th century. Edward Swoffer was a hairdresser around 1830, his son Stephen was a baker. Associated names Keryan, Whatrup and Witham.

Hi Pauline
I'm looking for a Walter John Swoffer, would have been born around 1850, probably Kent, England (possibly Dover). Married Catherine Ann "Kate" Wrightson, and they moved to Minnesota. I suspect he was somehow related to an Alfred Swoffer (father/brother/etc???) because he purchased land from him in Minnesota 1881.
Do you know anything of these Swoffers or relations?

My father, Walter Alfred Swoffer was Walter John Swoffer's nephew. Walter John came to Walnut Grove, Minnesota in the 1880's with his two brothers, Alfred and Frederick. They engaged in various businesses in Walnut Grove and Walter Alfred is buried in Walnut Grove.

Alfred Swoffer was my great-grandfather and W.J. Swoffer was his brother. They settled down and established businesses in Walnut Grove, MN. They were later joined by another brother, Frederick, who settled in Tracy, MN. W.J.'s oldest son Alfred left for California, where he raised a family. E.W., the younger son, remained in Walnut Grove.
