I'm just beginning my family-heritage search. I'm the son of Leo J. Tursi, born in Bari, It., son of Dominick and Archangela. I'm the first of many grandchildren. Have come across other Tursis thru the net. Let me know about your search/connection with the Tursis. Perhaps we are related.

My further ancestor in the TURSI line is Joseph TURSI, the gandfather to my g-great grandmother, Maria TURSI who cam to America from Salerno, Italy near 1919-1920. I have only a few TURSI's in my records but my g-grandmother kept a lot of notes about family... I have often thought she always knew someone in the family would puruse our history. I would like to learn more about where your TURSI family comes from and who is your furthest ancestor.

Thanx.

My maiden name is Doris Tursi...family is from South Philadelphia. I know that my grandfather immigrated here in the latter part of the l9th century - about 1895...he became a citizen in l947. The Tursi family branch that I am related to came from a little town in the province of cosenza St. Lorenzo del vallo, near Spezzano Albanese. In the l960s I made a trip to the town...took trains and buses and finally walked the last 8 to l0 miles. The town was full of Tursis....by that time no one really knew my family..they had been gone too long. Recently I made a trip back to Italy and visited the bassilicata area. Found that there is a town called Tursi near Matera (a wonderful area where people lived in caves until the l950s) and a cathedral of Tursi which had burned, had been restored and was reopened on Christmas Eve l998.

When I grew up in South philadelphia, there were a number of other Tursis I knew...I was not aware of a relationship...Rose Tursi, Joseph Tursi.... Other surnames in my family are Donato and Ciliberti...also from the Cosenza area. Doris Spencer

I am a Tursi originaly from NYC. My grandfathers name was John Tursi. I had an aunt named Rose but i'm not sure if she came from my grandmothers side which was Pisadora.
I alway thought Tursi was kind or an original name but i have found that their are several branches of this tree. I know my grand father had several brothers but i would have to do some home work to find their names.

I am a Tursi, born in South Philadelphia. My great grandparents came from the province of Cosenza. In the l960s I visited the little town they came from San Lorenzo del Vallo, near Spezzano Albanese. There were many Tursis there -- seemed like half the town. Last year I returned to southern Italy, visited Matera - where people lived in caves til the 1950s, in Basilacata -- near Matera is a town of Tursi, where there is a cathedral which had burned and was being restored and having an opening celebration -- christmas of 1999. Some of the Tursis I know from Philadelphia are my father, Armand, (91 and still alive, living near me in New Jersey) Joseph, Carmela, Philomena, Helen. I also knew a Rose Tursi and a John Tursi who were not directly related to me, as far as I knew.
