Hello, my mother-in-law is Gaida nee Ulmanis. Her father was an atty. in Latvia, and her uncle was Karlis Ulmanis. She came to the US around 1950. Any information on the Ulmanis family would be appreciated.

Hello. My husband's maternal mother was Ella Ulmanis, married to Adolphs Taars; she was the daughter of a ferryman on the Daugava River in Riga, and Adolphs was a seminarian who had to cross the river from his housing in the city. He was from Estonia, and because they fell in love and married, his family disowned him. He left the seminary and they lived in Riga and had two daughters and one son. My husband and his family came here in 1949. His grandmother died in Riga many years ago, and there is a picture of her in our family.
Karlis Ulmanis was also the name of the president of the country who was murdered during the war. One of his relatives named Ulmanis is now serving as president.
Thank you for contacting me...please keep me in mind as you research, and I shall do likewise. Perhaps there is a connection. Have you been back there? We have gone twice since independence, and have met extended family there, however, the cousins have not been successful in finding out information, and they live and work in Riga.

I am a descendant of Karlis Ulmanis. From my understanding, President Karlis Ulmanis had an illigitament son also named Karlis who had 3 sisters Anna, Alga and Martha (none ever married) His son Karlis was my Great Great Grandfather. My great grandfather Theodore Ulmanis stowed away on a merchant marine ship to the states. His children - My Grandmother and her brother have some information on the Ulmanis line and recently went to Latvia to do further research. I would be happy to exchange any info you may have.

I have a family tree taken from the Ulmanis house museum in Livberzes that I can share if you are interested. Also, any information you have would be appreciated. I don't see a Theodore on the tree, but there is information missing on it.

I read your posting about being related to president Karlis Ulmanis. Is this true?
My family line comes from his brother Christopher and I don't know much about that side of the family. Do you have any information you can give? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

My Uncle, Mariss Ulmanis and his parents, Haralds & Milda, and sister Hilda immigrated in 1950.
I'm stuck on my research on his parents and would really appreciate any pointers or assistance in moving forward on his parents and relations back in Europe. Haralds was born abt. 1902 and Milda 1901. Thanks for any tips on doing Latvian research.
