Francois Joseph Umbdenstock married on 16
August 1849 at Guemar, France to Salome Gruss.
They came to America sometime after April of
1854. I believe they first settled in New York
and later moved to the area of Lemont, Illinois.
Does anyone have any information on this family?

B. Williams,
I apologize for the tardiness of this reply. I have
double check the names I have for the Umbdenstock
family and unfortunately I do not have any names
that correspond to your list of names.

I would like to send you my short write-up of the
family. Maybe this will help us find a connection.
My e-mail address is hlgruss@snet.net

Hope to hear from you.

I am married into the Umdenstock family from and still live in Illinois. It is possible the b was dropped from the name. My husband's grandfather was named Elmer born in 1903. He had 3 siblings Mary, Otto, and a brother name unknown. Elmer's father name was John. If I can be of assistance, please reply. A cousin is currently researching who may have more information.

Patricia,

I began looking into the Umbdenstock family when
I was researching my family in Guemar, France. Salome
Gruss married Francois Joseph Umbdenstock and then
came to American, landing in New York. I have not
traced the family here in America, basically because of
the Gruss family research.

However, I did manage to trace the family back three
generations in Guemar, France. In addition, I have
several families from the same time period as Salome
and Fra. Joseph.

Please sent me your e-mail address and I will forward
you a copy of my small write-up of the family. I can be
reached at hlgruss@snet.net.

I am researching this surname as that was my mother's maiden name. I have information that Matthias immigrated from Guemar to USA in about 1849 and first settled in Illinois, then moved to eastern Iowa. I have information in Iowa, but have not been able to trace back through Illinois to France. It seems there was more than one Matthias in Illinois. Does anyone have information on this part of the family?

Linda,

My great grandfather's sister Salome Gruss and her husband
Francois Joseph Umbdenstock emigrated from Guemar, France
some time after April 19, 1854 when they obtained their
passport. They came to New York and probably moved West to
Illinois. I have not been able to find her family after coming
to America.

I did some research in the civil records of Guemar using the
microfilms from the Mormon Family History Centers. I have
written a short history of the Umbdenstock family from these
records. If you will send me you e-mail address I will forward
the short "history."

In addition, I have a listing of names from the records. I wil
have to retrieve it from a zipped files. It might give some hints.
I will include that listing with the history.

I can be reached at hlgruss@snet.net.

Hope to hear from you.

My great grandfather was also John. My grandfather was Charles. His sister Ethel married Chuck Stahle. Is this your family? I have a lot of info on John's family. I have been in touch with a decendant of Mathias' children, the one also named Mathias and she has information on that family. If this is your family, please e-mail privately. I would like to combine our information. Linda
