I am looking for information on Lauradena Venema who married Ben Kannegieter, both from Groningen. Her first husband was Henry Ouding. A possible relation to your Venema?

These names are not familiar to me. My family left Groningen in 1900 to come to USA.

My grandmother was Sadie Venema Baker. Her and my grandfather Gruelt(George) Baker came to America in 1896 and lived in the Whittenville, Massachusetts area for a number of years. My father was born in Kalamazoo in 1911. Sadie was born on May 23, 1890 in Friesland, Holland. She had a brother Fred Venema and a Ben Venema, I think there were a couple of sisters also. Would anyone know of any of these people or their families.

At this point I don't think there is a connection. Am still trying to locate all of the siblings of Lodewik Venemaa of Maarum, Groningen married to Ienje Dijkstra.

Hey Ruth~

There might be a connection between my Lauradena Venema m. Benjamin Kannegieter. They were both born in Groningen, and am assuming died in Kalamazoo County as that is where most of their children were married and died. Would like to chat with you more about this line. Maybe we can make a connection.

I still live near Kalamazoo and can do some footwork if necessary.

There probably is some connection somewhere back. I've just begun to delve into this side and don't have much to go on. Grandpa (Lodewijk Venemaa) always maintained, according to the family only having one sister and one brother, with all assuming they were orphans. So far, I've found several more older than him, and not the brother who followed him to the US. There is a 10 year age difference and I'm thinking I may find a few more in between them. I don't have a LDS history center as handy as when I lived in the Chicago area. However, if you have access to the LDS IGI files on the Venema you can see the line.

Lodewijk was the son of Hotze Venema and Tientje Vonk, son of Pieter Hotze Venema and Wietske WIllems Heemestra. There is an incomplete listing of this family, I think, because the researcher found the line he was looking for and this one was not it.

Let me know how you fit into this and whether or not you have the IGI file. You can access it throught the LDS ssite. You can email directly, if you prefer.

Sorry, I didn't get to read the whole message, so I'm not sure about the connection, except that the family came from the Marum area in Groningen. The moved fairly often, as many of the children were born in different towns (Midwolde, Lucasworlde, Grootegast and Marum while grandma was for Doexsum) which were all in the same general area. I can check the earlier IGI file and see if any of the others might match if you have locations. I have located an excellent researcher in that area of Holland and am considering using them to do the work since I'm no longer close to a good library. Feel free to contact me off line if you like.

I think there was a Peter Venema in the ancestors some where but I can't find him at this time. My great grandfather was Tom Fred Venema and he was born and died in Friesland Holland. He was born Febr.19, 1859 and died in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1936.
