My grandfather, Elias Weidenfeld, came to the U.S. in 1909 from "Austria". His wife, Frieda Schachter Weidenfeld, came in 1913 with her two children, Samuel and Frances. I would like to know if anyone out there is related to me through this family and where these people are actually from.

My Grandfather - Marcel Weidenfeld - was born in Rumania in 1889. One of our family 'stories' is that he was in Austria at some stage of his life before going to Paris around 1905, London 1920? New Zealand 1926 where he died in 1955. Any information about the Weidenfeld line I'd be interested to know. My mother thinks he may have had brothers in USA but is not sure.

Hi Gail,

I noted your post on the Weidenfeld message board. I also noticed you had a previous post with "Wadenfeld" as the first name. How did you discover Weidenfeld was his last name? In recent months, I have discovered that my grandfather was born in Jesupol, Galicia, which was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. He was Jewish. Are your Weidenfelds Jews? I have been told that my grandfather had 8 to 10 brothers and sisters. I found two of the sisters, who emigrated to the US, but am having a very hard time finding the brothers, who also were supposed to have come to the US around the turn of the century. I have found out that my grandfather, Elias's, father's name was Hersch. Do you have any idea what your grandfather's parents' names were? Do you live in the U.S.? I live in Las Vegas, NV. I would love to hear from you. You can contact me at

My grandfather, Isadore Weidenfeld, along with his brothers Max,Saul, and maybe a few others came here around 1910-1913. They were born in Skala, Galicia. Supposedly we are related to George Weidenfeld the English publisher who was knighted, but I'm not sure thru whom. Also not sure how many brothers there were or if they are related to Weidenfelds from other parts of Galicia. Anyone knowing anything please get in touch.

Please help me trace my family

I don't recall anyone mentioning another "Louis"(I'm LEWIS)but I will ask my mother and a few others about your father and his sisters. My grandfather and his brothers were all from Galicia, I'll try to find out if we had any relatives from Romania.

My cousin told me the only relative of ours that he knew of that spent any time in Romania was an Aaron Weidenfeld who settled in Israel and died there several years ago.

Dear Lewis,

My grandfather, Elias Weidenfeld, married my grandmother, Frieda Zwirnbaum, in Skala, Galicia, in approximately 1906. There is another Weidenfeld family who was from Skala, whom I am not sure I am related to or not, but it has also been said in my family that we are related to Lord Weidenfeld! My grandfather's name was Aharon Hirsch. I don't know where he was born. Please contact me; I may have some information for you! There were Weidenfelds all over Galicia, and unfortunately, I haven't been able to make a connection yet, either. What was your father and mother's names? I am very willing to share what information I have. I AM related to Jesse White, the late actor and comedian (the "lonely Maytag repairman" for many years-he was my father's brother, nee Jonah Marcus Weidenfeld. Have you ever heard of a connection to him through your family? Looking forward to hearing from you! Sincerely, Denise Weidenfeld Azbill

Dear Robert,

My maiden name is Weidenfeld. I may have some information for you! I have been looking for connections to Galicia and have done a lot of research. I have found three Samuel Weidenfelds in the 1920 NYC census. Please contact me! I will be very happy to share this info with you, and maybe we can make a connection! Sincerely, Denise Weidenfeld Azbill

This is getting interesting. My father always told us we were related to the actor Jesse White (who also played in "Harvey" with Jimmy Stewart. My father, Harry Weidenfeld has a brother Seymour and a sister Hilda. He married Dorothy Epstein.
My grandfather was Isadore, he had a few brothers(Max,Saul and Hy that I know of, maybe more, and maybe sisters.)Saul's wife met Sir George and said he was the spitting image of uncle Max and that he was related(but I really don't know how.)They all emigrated here before WW1 and settled in and around NYC. The had a dairy store for awhile and then sort of split up.
Thanks for your info.
