Genealogical work by Harold Hong Sherley, a descendent of Anders Wiborg
(written circa 1975), indicates:
"The first Wiborg for which we have a record is Anders Nielsen Wiborg. He
might have been born in Denmark since the name is of Danish origin; but the
probability is that he was born in Norway. Because he was an officer in the
national Norwegian Army, we have some detailed information about his
He became a second lieutenant (Fenrick) in the Oppland National Infantry
Regiment in 1678. This would place his birth about 1655. There were two
kinds of second lieutenants at the time: the first was called Fenrick and
the second Sekondloytnanat. He became a Sekondloytnanat in the Fabergske
Company in 1682. He became a First Lieutenant in 1685. In 1697 he became a
Lieutenant Captain in the South Hedemark National Guard Company. Later that
year he became Captain and commander of the Osterdal Company, which was
sent to Denmark in 1714 under orders of the Danish King. This was to
celebrate the union of Norway Denmark.
In 1717 he was returned to Norway as Major Commander of Kristiansfjeld, a
fortress near the Swedish border. Denmark Sweden were intermittently at
war for hundreds of years and at this time Norway was a part of Denmark.
Anders Wiborg died peacefully in Kongsvinger in 1718.
Anders Wiborg was married twice. His first marriage was to Margrethe
Petersdatter Skridshol of Ringsaker, who bore him 8 children. His second
marriage was to Margrethe Madfeldt of Romedal Parish. She bore him seven
children, of whom Fridrick is the ancestor of the Wiborg line who came to
America in 1868. During his second marriage he lived at the Horsand farm in
Romedal Parish. Fredrick (or Fridrick ) Wiborg was born at the Horsand
farm, but, as a result of primogeniture, could not inherit the farm and
moved to the farm Sili (or Silli or Sillie) some time after his fathers
We also know from the Romedal Parish Bygdebok that "Captain Wiborg's 1st
wife, Margrethe Pedersdatter Skredshol, was of rich people, the Captain
had been a person of substance at Farborg (or Farberg)."

I found Sophia (I now believe her correct name is Sophia, and not Sophie) and her siblings (not their parents, though..) in the 'cencus' Norwegians in America 1880, located at the
Ole H. Wiborg was born in Gudbrandsdalen, and his spouse Lorense in Oslo. I don't know when or where they married, or when or from where they emigrated, but seeing that all their
children were born in Canada, they must have emigrated prior to 1856.
Sophia moved from Wisconsin to Chicago, probably in 1882, but in 1883 at the latest, and graduated from the Woman's Medical College of Chicago in 1885. I believe that she then moved back
to Wisconsin, as a newspaper articles states that she made Chicago her permanent home in 1892. She married another physician, Arthur H. Brumback (~1862) sometime between 1885 and 1896.
I checked the cencus of 1865, and found Anders Fredriksen
and Marit at the farm Sili in Lesja, with the children:
Anne, Mari, Ingebrigt, Anders, Ole, Marit and Ingeborg.
Anders and Marith emigrated 10. August 1888 to Madelia, MI
together with Marit.
Anders Andersen and Marith emigrated from the farm Haga in Lesja
to Melrose, MI on 30. June 1876 from Christiania.

Yes I have GEDCOM for a chunk of Wiborg.
Unfortunately had recent software glitch and lost 213 records, but have most of Norwegian Wiborg left.
Send me an email at w .i .borg @ owt .com (not right format but i think the software strips email addresses otherwise - just get rid of spaces).
Ensures privacy, even when one doesn't want it.
Or send email to Darcy, who has my current email.
Anders Wiborg in Madelia, Minnesota
Yes, I have some information on this Anders Wiborg. They show in one US Census under the name Wiborg, but took the farm name Silli. I recall being told they were relatives of my line and once figured out how. I can dig this out if it is useful for your line, but I suspect not. There is a more fruitful line of study below.
Unfortunately I find that my crash screwed up even the Wiborg line. However, I do have hard copies that show Frederik Nicolai Wiborg born ~1708 on the Sili farm had, among other children, a son Anders Johan Wiborg born 18 April 1769.
Anders married Marit Hansdatter and had three children, the third of whom was named Hans, born 6 May 1803.
It might be that you Ole H Wiborg is Ole Hanson Wiborg (i.e., son of Hans Anderson Wiborg). If you can establish this, you tie into the Anders Nielson Wiborg linage.
I may be able to find more on this. I will be out of the country for several weeks and can not research it until then. Good luck.
Probably your (somewhat distant) cousin - Jim Wiborg
