Can anyone tell me if a death certificate would have been issued to my G Grandfather who died in a disaster at sea in 1909? Do those lost at sea get certificates? Thanks in advance.

If you have not closed this, have you checked local newspapers?, Norwich has a very good selection, a didsaster of that coast would have been mentioned I'm sure!
Good Luck

I had a similar situation regarding my father as he past away at sea whilst working
as far as i can remember i had to contact the royal navy. In answer to your question.
"Do those lost at sea get certificates?" The answer is "YES THEY DO GET A DEATH CERTIFICATE"
You will need to contact the BMD Register in the area where the accident occoured and inform them that he past away at sea and they should be able to give you the address for the department of the Royal Navy where you will need to send the information and fee

Thank you both for assistance & suggestions. Sorry to have been a while with an acknowledgement but I was away for 6 months. I can get back to my research now!

Rules would be different for Royal Navy or Merchant Navy, but all deaths on British merchant ships were registered with the GRO. Google "Deaths at sea" and you'll get several pointers.
