Looking for information on a home in Denver Colorado called "Home of the Good Sheppard". My great grandma Sadie Nelson and her sister Mildred Nelson were there in 1910. Mildred died shortly there after. Would like to know more about this home and the reason they were brought there.

We are also looking for information on that same home. My grandmother, Rachel Gauna, and two of her sisters (Amelia and Anita) were there with her. Rachel was the youngest and was allowed to leave after her 16th birthday, which would have been in July, 1919. We're not sure when they arrived. I've had little luck finding anything on the home, but I did find a reference to a:

House of the Good Shepherd
For problem and delinquent girls operated by the Catholic Sisters of the Good Shepherd. Records may be at the Department of Institutions. Can also check with the Archdiocese of Denver

We're going to check this out with the archdiosese and see what we can find.

Yes I was, my great grandmother had told my father that her sister had died at the home. The information that I was given was my great grandmothers name, religion, age, where she came from, mother and fathers name, the date she came, the reason why she came and that date that she was let go. Her sister did die after being taken to the hospital of an infection that she had gotten from being on her knees scrubbing floors. They were put there by the juvenile court system and I have ran into a death end on that due to the Judge in Denver at that time had burned some records to protect women and children from retaliation when he was voted out of office. Good luck on your search.

Looking at old posts on orphanages you mentioned that you contacted the arch diocese of Denver regarding an address of an orphanage. I am in the same postion looking for information on St Charles Orphanage around 1900. Would you supply me with the e-mail of the Arch Diocese of Denver so I may inquire about St Charles. Send me the adddress of list as I am not a regular subscriber to this list. Thanks
Thanks, Bob Trehearne

Hi, I was in an Orphanage in Denver called St.Clare's. I do not recall ever hearing of an orphanage called St. Charles. Perhaps there is a mix up of names? St.Clare's was for boys and girls from age two to 11 -12. It was run by the Franciscan sisters and was built in 1908 and torn down in about the late 60's or early 1970's Hope this info. helps.

Hello,
This place has always been a mystery for my family. My grandmother was there with her little sister in 1910. We were told that her parents got divorced and sent there daughters there. Her little sister became ill and was sent to the hospital and died. My grandmother told a few different stories that painted a bad picture of the home. Could you tell me of your experience and do you have any pictures of the home.
Thank You, Joanne
