Let me cite a book I have never seen :

[Van DEERLIN, Hilda]. History of St. Mary's Mission and Home for Children, Honolulu, 1927. Honolulu, T.H.: Honolulu Star-Bulletin, 1927. 7 p. Book is in Sinclair Library of the Univ. of Hawaii, Honolulu.

A source from 1940 mentions St. Mary's Children's Home, among institutions for dependent and neglected children.

My mother and her 3 sisters lived at the St. Mary's Mission and Home for Children from 1925 to 1942. I have the book written by one of the headmasters, Hilda Van Deerlin. If you would like a copy, please respond and I will email it to you.

My mother and her brother were also orphans in the mission in the 1924 to the early 1940's. My name is Mary Kanae and my mom's name is Isabella Barcas. What is your mom and sister's name. I know some of the people who are friends of my mom's. Please send me the info as I would appreciate any thing I can find for her. She is still trying to locate her brother who is now 87yrs old and we do not know if he is still alive or where he is. Thank you,
Mary

Aloha Mary, You're Bell's daughter?! Wow, my mom and Bell have been friends for as long as I can remember! My mom's name is Ilma Murin and she lives in Hawaii Kai with my youngest brother, Bob. I thought I knew all Bell's children because we all grew up together when we were kids then Bell and her family moved to Kailua and we didn't see much of them after that. Mom and Bell lost touch with each other after Bell moved to Nevada (?) to be with her daughter, Francie. I can see in the 1930 Census that Bell had a brother named Peter. Is that who she is looking for? How is Bell doing? I was just visiting my mother in Hawaii and she is hanging in there ok! We talked about her friends at St. Mary's when I was there. Look forward to hearing from you.

Just saw your post. I have had a request from a relative of Vivivien Gregulho who was a resident at the St. Mary's Home for Children in Honolulu who is looking for info about the school. On Amazon the book is unavailable. Can you email me a copy? Shirley DePonte s.deponte@yahoo.com

Hi,

Did you send me the copy of the book? Does it list names of the children? My mother's name was Mildred Awana or McDermott.

Thank you,

Russell Brittain

Dear Sue,

I am coordinating an effort to start a much needed orphanage in Hawaii. If you would mail me a copy of the book, I would be grateful.
