Looking for any info on my great, great grandfather, Malachi (or Malachy) Faughnan. Born in Co. Leitrim in early 1800's. Married to Winifred Higgins of Annaduff Parish, Co. Longford. Had son, Hugh born in 1844, baptised in St. Mary's, Newtownforbes, Co. Longford. They emigrated to NY iabout 1847.

The Faughnan originally came from Rinn, Co. Leitrim. A Michael Kelly (my great grandfather) was sponsor at baptism of Ann Faughnan daughter of Michael Faughnan and Mary Fallon of Ballagh, Newtownforbes,Co.Longford on 24th January 1887. There was also a Margaret Faughnan born 3rd March 1866 at Rinn, Co.Leitrim whose parents were John Faughnan & Bridget Kelly. These may be related to Malachy

Malachy is my great, great grandfather, born about 1820 In Co. Leitram, Ireland. Little, if anything is known about Malchy. To date no census records, ship lists or naturalization records have been found. He married Winifred Higgins. They had a son Hugh Faughnan. Hugh married Elizabeth Black and had 13 children. Richard, one of the sons is my grandfather. Richard had 10 children, his son William is my father.

Further to my last post, I opened my "Faughnan" history book prepared by my Uncle John. I do have a copy of the baptismal record for Hugh. Further into my book Hugh had a son George who married Mary Cassidy. They had a son Robert who married Edyth Raymond and had daughters Virginia, Roberta and a son Douglas. Virginia married Patrick O'Sullivan. If my book is accurate Virginia married July 1957 and had the following children - Eileen, John, Ailisha, Patrick and Hugh.

Would you do me a favor and check the book to see if there is a Thomas Faughnan b. abt 1847 who married a Mary McGovern about 1890? In the 1901 census they were living in Finnalaghta Annaduff Mohill area of Co Leitrim.

my grandfather was Peter Faughnan born in Mohill Co Leitrim he had a son Malachy who went to America. Don't know what Peter's father was called.

I'm checking out my wife's greatgrandfather, Peter Faughnan, who was born in Leitrim in the 1860s but was living in Belfast in 1911. He had a son Malachy/Malachi but I'm not sure what became of him. My wife's grandmother (Malachy/Malachi's sister) was Kathleen Faughnan and her siblings also included Josephine, Winefrid (Winnie), Ellen Elizabeth (Lily), Alice, Thomas, Patrick and Peter. Some of the family may have been born in Co Monaghan before the family moved to Belfast.

BTW where are you based? Peter Faughnan was my grandfather.
The son Malachi went to America and had a son, I think also Malachi I am trying to trace what happened to him. His brother Patrick was in Real Estate in America too, married Josie no issue. There was no Alice, Alice was his wife nee Long and there was also Kathleen, so I don't understand where your wife comes in, Aunty Kathleen had 2 daughters Eily and Maura and a son John. Is she the daughter of one of the girls?
