My g-grandfather Andrzej (Andrew) GALAS arrived in Chicago in 1901 from Poland. I have found him on a ship list with a brother Pawel (Paul), and they both claimed to be headed to live with another brother in Chicago. I've never found the other brother, but common family names suggest that he could be Steven or John. A marriage record gives "Thomas" as the father of Andrzej.
In the next couple of weeks I believe I will have access to baptism records from their hometowm of Zalasowa, near Tarnow, in Galicia, Poland, and I hope to uncover lots about this family.
Are there any other researchers out there looking into GALAS (or GALASZ) lines from Chicago?

My grandfather Franciszek ( Frank) was also a Galas who came from Rodatyczek, Galicia in 1901. He seattled in MA where he was married and moved to Chicago before 1910. Any connection?

I don't know the village of Rodatyczek, I'll have to find it on a map. I have seen that some cousins of my g-grandfather went to MA, so there was also something attractive about that area. Good news: I did get the microfilm of Zalasowa (my Andrzej's home town) and the place is absolutely crawling with GALAS family members. The baptismal registers are the nicest I have ever seen, listing not only parents but also grandparents! I have been able to push back 4 generations. Amazingly, even with that many generations of family tree, there are still GALAS's in the village who I can't connect with. When was your Frank Galas born, and what were the names of his parents?

Frank was born on Dec. 4, 1869 to Mateusz and Franciszka. The town is now called Rodatychi in the district of Grodok. As far as I know he never talked about any family here or from home.
