Surnames: Auge/Auger/Osier/Richard
There are some Osier families in Essa, Simcoe South, Ontario listed in the 1881 Canadian Census. I found them at the LDS site www.familysearch.org. I believe that one family, that of Joseph and Mary R. Osier are ancestors of mine, and that the surname was originally Auge or Auger. Their daughter Exilda, born in 1864, could be my father's grandmother. Other heads of families in Sunnidale, Simcoe North, include Joseph H. Osier, Nelson Osier, Thomas Osier, and Tanese Osier. Hope this helps.

Glad to be of some help, Michael. As to whether or not your Osiers are my Osiers, I don't know. I'm still not certain that the Exilda referred to in the census is my ggma. It is possible that the Osier heads of families in the census I referred to are related, but that's conjecture. Michigan does figure in the family history, probably prior to 1881, but I have no evidence. My ggma Exilda appears in Simcoe in the 1891 census with her husband, Albert Richard, and her inlaws, Joseph and Marie Louise Richard. I know that from Simcoe the family moved to Fort William (now Thunder Bay) Ontario. Before WW 1 Albert and Exilda moved on to Holyoke, Massachusetts where they lived out their lives. I'll just have to keep on searching!

Hi Michael, The odelia you have listed is my Grandmother and Vernon Koelsch is my father. Both are deceased. Odelia had several brothers and sisters including Alton, Ida, Ralph, Robert. Her fathers name was Phillip. I do have a little more information if you are interested but I am not at home right now where I can look it up. LOIS

From the wisps of stories I remember from my Grandmother, who was Marie Osier, there was a connect in both NY and Mi, and perhaps someplace out west (Dakota's?) Also given the rare nature of the name and geographic proximity I suspect these are all related in some way. So I am interested, if only to try to put the pattern together to figure things out until we find the real connection. My gggf was Tanese Osier, children numbered 12, but I have only Lillian, Charles Wesley, Stanislaus?, Ernie, Ada, Marie, Lloyd, Leon. Perhaps also Martha.

Family hints have surnames of Young, Mcbride. Quinn (that's me).

Hi Michael, Here is some of the info I have on Osiers. Odelia's father was Eli Philip Osier and he was born Apr 18, 1869, I believe in Quebec. His wife was Julia Aneda Butler born Dec 25. 1871 in New York. Both died in Arenac County Michigan, Him-Mar 1, 1938 and her- Sept 5, 1957 They had 5 children, Odelia the oldest. Ralph Sylvester b. mar 23, 1900,Robert Philip b.apr 3, 1902, Ida Mae Mar 28, 1904 and Alton apr 4, 1911, I believe all the children were born in Michigan. Odelia told me her parents worked at a lumber camp when she was a small child- her mom was the cook. Eli's parents were Philibert Osier b. Mar 1843 and Delia Tasse, they had 7 children.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't connect yet, but the fog may become more defined. I just found this in my notes. It appears to show Osiers in Michigan that immigrated back to Ontario 1896
