Im looking for any information on my family. My grandparents were Herbert Smethurst and Mary Alice Crack. They were born in England in 1897 and 1894. Herberts grandparents, I believe were John Smethurst and Jane Lowe.
If you have any information at all, I would love to hear from you.
Thank you

I am not sure if I can help or not. Our family has a book 'Chester, Lawson, Dinsmore', it is a family tree. My grandfather's name was Chester Dinsmore Smethurst. The names you've mentioned sound familar, but I think Mary and Alice were must have been commom names back then. Feel free to contact if you have any more info.

Are you in Canada?
I have a Mary Alice CRACK, baptised 2 August 1894 in Worsthorne/ Burnley, Lancashire, England.
She was the daughter of William Henry BAKER/ CRACK & his wife Mary Newbold (born HOLMES).
William Henry went by both surnames BAKER & CRACK, as did his father Richard.

I have just recently started checking. My maiden name was smethurst, and my father and his brother were named Gilbert James Smethurst and Chester Smethurst. One thing that really stuck out was the fact that they had a cousin named Jimmy Dinsmore who ended up in Hobbs, New Mexico. My father and his brother were born in Fall River, MA, about 1915 and 1913 I believe. Their mother remarried and I never have found too much on my paternal grandfather.

Good luck
