I am trying to locate a birth record (or any information on) a John Henry Van Vleck III allegedly from Auburn, NY. The information I have is that he was born in Auburn, NY in 25 Oct, 1847/48 and later moved to Kankakee, IL. I have good information on the family in Kankakee and thereafter, but nothing that I can prove from NY and before.
His parents names were John Henry Van Vleck II, married to Elisa Duncan, both allegedly born in Holland.

If anyone can offer any help on this, it would be very gratefully appreciated.

I doubt that either were born in Holland as only pure speculation. Most immigrents form Holland came in the 17th century. I have seen dozens of cases where family legends state someone was born somewhere only to discover that is where their ancestors came from.

I would check the Van Vleck genealogy. I am actually trying to find descendents of a Henry Van Vleck born before the R-War. Henry was as common then as it is today. It is quite possible he was the father of John H I. He was born in Second River NJ. The problem you will face is the period 1776-1812 was a black hole for public records. Even the 1820 census is terrible.
