Am looking for background on brothers James Gilbert--born appr. 1834 1839 in Ireland, migrated to Canada probably about 1850, and settled in Renville Co. MN about 1873. The 1880 census lists them, their large families, and the elderly John Martha Carruth(both born in Ireland; parents?).

The best place to find the information you are looking for is to order "Carruth Family" book from Higginson Book Company at or call them at (978) 745-8025.

Thank you for your reponse to my query. I'm hesitant to order the book because I am doubtful that my particular branch of Carruths would be included. Are Albert, Gilbert, or James listed in the index for MN around 1871-1900? Are their names listed together prior to 1873 in a Canadian locale?

There are several Alberts listed in the book. Do you by chance have a middle name?

No middle names are available for my Alberts. They are cousins born in 1865+/-1 year, in Canada, moved to MN ~1873. Parents were Gilbert/Isabelle James/Mary, with large farm families. (Fathers were born in Ireland, mothers in Canada; latter pair married in Perth, Ontario.)

I have the Carruth Family book. There is no Gilbert listed in the index at the back of the book. The 4 Alberts that are listed in the book do not match your requirements, either.
