I can tell you something about Traub himself. Graduated West Point 1886, was a linguist. Headed the Dept of Modern Languages at USMA, taught language at School of the Line at Fort Leavenworth. In WWI commanded 51st Infantry Brigade, then promoted to Major General and commanded the 35th ID in the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. His division was decimated in the fight. Some have blamed him for his leadership, and he was accused after the war of incompetance by Governor Allen of Kansas. He also briefly commanded the 41st Division after the war.
