On the ship log, it says the method of payment for the trip was Col. 23.
Does anyone know what that means?

I find 2 manifests, apparently for the same person... on Dec 17 1905 the other Dec 20... one ending in ICH the other ISH... at least according to Ancestry transcribers.... but where do you see this reference to column 23? I am not seeing this

Zalel Drilich 20 Dec 1905 abt 1865 Bremen Hebrew Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse

Zalel Drilish 17 Dec 1905 abt 1865 Bremen Hebrew Main

Note the one from the 17th did not sail as his name is crossed through

Hi, My subscription is up, so I can't access the original record that I saw it on, but I think it might have been Salamon Klughaupt, if it wasn't Zalel.
Thanks

Sorry about before. Yes, I double checked, and the ship manifest in question definitely referred to Salamon Klughaupt who came to New York in the early 1900's

The issue is not method of payment, but rather source of payment. One could reasonably assume that a reference to Col. 23 as the source of travel funds would mean that the fare was supplied by the person named in Col 23. In this case, it was Salamon's daughter Rachel Drillich.
