Adam ‘Opi’ Hanssen

May 27, 1903 — Feb. 18, 2000

Adam Hanssen, 96, of Salem died Friday.

He was born and raised in Frankfurt, Germany. He was a master machinist with Maschinenfabrick Johannisberg for 30 years until he immigrated to the United States in 1956. He lived in Turner for two years, settling in Salem in 1958 and working for Salem Equipment Co.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, painting and playing the mandolin.

His wife, Wilhelmine, whom he married in 1929, died in 1977.

Survivors include his son, Manfred of Salem; daughter, Gerda Schifferer of Turner; sister, Else Fleck of Germany; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visiting will be noon to 7 p.m. Monday at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Lutheran Church.

Interment will be in Belcrest Memorial Park.

John is pictured in the 44-D class yearbook of cadets training at Marfa Army Air Field in Marfa, Texas. He is one of the aviation cadets. I'm not kin but thought this might help someone researching the SCHIFFERER family.
