I am related to a Carew family that came from Solohead, Co Tipperary. As far as I know, most left there and settled in St. John's Newfoundland around 1841. The eldest son, Edward, stayed on and may have some descendants still living there.

Colin,
My grandfather, a Norris with a Carew mother, was from Witless Bay. I have been researching them for many years. I am no expert, but perhaps I can help you with your branch?

Email is easier for me - I have a hard time finding my way around the message boards.

Yes - the name Carew &/or Carey can definately be the same. We have no idea as to why the name changes, but we've seen it many times. My Carew's came to the Peterborough area, Ontario, Canada in 1825 and 2 of the sons moved to Minnesota.
Who was your gggrandfather? Did he, by chance, happen to settle in Minnesota?
Lois
