Please can anyone help me with identifying the uniform worn by this young man.

He's a WW1 era British Army lance corporal. The picture is too fuzzy to see the brass shoulder title he's wearing, and I haven't found a match for the cap insignia. You could try the great war forum, they can usually identify a photo rather quickly.

I'm almost certain the cap badge is that of the Royal First Devon Yeomanry, a part time cavalry unit. The badge is described as, "a simple royal crest of crown and lion".

A similar badge was worn by staff officers during the war. The only other badge of that design I know of, with a scroll beneath inscribed " The Royal Dragoons" was worn by the the 1st (Royal) Dragoons.
