Surnames: Cullen & English
Hi all.
Isabella Cullen: b abt 1840 Armagh; d 1924 Qld,Australia (parents: William & Mary)
Married William English in 1862 Armagh
William: b: 1838 Ireland d 1877 Qld, Australia (parents: John English & Mary).

I have come to a standstill in relation to these two adventurers. I believe they may have left Ireland about 1863'ish but have no birth records for either.

I would love to know more about them!
Many thanks for your assistance!
Cheers
Dani

Birth records for Northern Ireland available from two
resources, both a pay webites.

www.emeraldancestors.com - free to view,pay for record

www.rootsireland.ie - used to be free to view but no longer

Both birth and marriage records would be Parish records as Civil Registration didn't start till 1864. However, if they were Protestant marriages were recorded from 1845-1875.

In 1864 the Griffith Valuation took place and now used as a census substitute. At this time there are 4 William English listed and 8 John English.

William's in Parish Derrynoose, Lisnadill, Mullaghbrack, Shankill (I think Belfast)

John 6 of 8 in Derrynoose Parish and 2 in Parish Keady

Cullin - 96 - Parish's in common Keady, Mullaghbrack and
Shankill.

You can use the British Telephone book to see how many still live in the area.

I'm not sure people leaving Ireland were adventurers, most left because circumstances required it.

Marriage listed on www.familysearch.org

a match for 1862 Armagh, Latter Day Saints microfilm
Volumne 1, Pg. 259 #4195894

A marriage record will give you date, place/parish,
and both their father's names.

A birth record gives you date, place/parish, both mother and father's name and mother's maiden name

You are welcome. This is the Civil Registration on a set of CD's I have. I can't remember if Kilmore was mentioned on the LDS website www.familysearch.org

William English to Isabella Cullen 22 June 1862 Kilmore,Armagh

Fa: John English Fa: William Cullen

LDS microfilm #101432

There were no births from 1864-1875 listed for the parents
William English & Isabella Cullen

A further look to www.familysearch with just parents name
gives several William and Isabella English contributions!I didn't put in any locations just the surname English and no names but put in the parents names and a check mark:

William English born 22 July 1870 Brisbane, Queensland,Auz
parents as above birth years are William 1842 and Isabella 1843 (no location)

Robert English born 14 April 1867, Brisbane, Queenland, Auz
parents same as for William English birth years for parents same

William James English born 5 Mar 1865 (all info as above)

Thomas 8 Feb 1872

David Henry 6 Feb 1878

Mary Ann 4 Jan 1869 married 1885 Richard Jimmieson, children
Isobel and David

John born 1864 Dublin, married 18 Aug 1886 Ipswich, Queensland wife Ellen Briggenshaw, he died 24 Aug 1910

These were donated by gaorth 94226, I don't know if the LDS releases address or not, they used to have them listed.

Hi Annette.
Thank you for the trouble you are taking with my query. It is very kind of you.

I have all this information you have offered. John English led a very eventful life - it is just wonderful to read about our ancestors past. I am sure my descendants will think me very boring.

I think I have the "family tree bug".
Cheers

yes, obsession I think is the word.

There are two persons in the british telephone book for Armagh. You could write letters, most living in Ireland don't get why we do this. The addresses are complete with postal codes, neither address had Kilmore in it. Look for addresses in these areas

Cullen, there are 37 listed in the phone book.

Parish Kilmore and Townlands are in both the Civil Registration District/Poor Law Union of Armagh - located within 12 mi. of named town. Also in the Parish of Clonfeacle and Banbridge.

Another source of the lives your ancestors lived would be books. See under counties on Eneclann or Four Courts Press.

Bye now and good luck. Annette
