Confederate Soldiers buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown, WV

I am trying to locate a Francis M. Wallace, 17th VA Infantry,"Company C" who died as a result of injuries received during the Battle of Antietem in MD". He was "mustered out" on 29 Sept 1862 at Shepherdstown, WV. After doing a search on Shepherdstown, WV, I came across information on a battle there. One hundred soldiers were to have died in that battle. Many others died in the hospital from injuries received in battle. These Confederate soldiers are interred in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown, WV. Does anyone have that transcribed or can tell me how else to find out?

Thank you,

Lisa Wallace Staley

Lisa,
Try emailing Shepherdstown Library to see if they have the Jefferson County cemetery books (all tombstone inscriptions in the county were catalogued) and ask if they will look for Francis' name in Elmwood Cemetery. It's worth a try.

Thank you for your suggestion. I think I will do that and see what happens. It can't hurt and besides you never know.

There is also a memorial monument to confederate soldiers in Elmwood Cemetery with 358 names of confederate soldiers who served from the area. You have probably already seen this website with photos of the cemetery, but if not, here is the link:

Good luck!
