Need Lookup for Death record for Feb of 1952 in MA

I am trying to find my grandfathers actually death date plus where he died. I tried ordering a death cert for him but it came back no record for MA.
My grandfather Alfred Elliston Wood was born June 5, 1905 in Lynn MA. Per Soc Sec records he died in Feb of 1952. I have his Soc Sec application dated 1947 and his last address was Boston MA. It is possible he moved to another state or that they just made a mistake and couldn't find his death record. I would be very grateful if someone was willing to help.
Thank
Tina Smith

Did you try the Mass. Archives and / or the archdiocess of Boatson?

Thanks someone did look in the index and he is not listed so he must have moved to another state. The search continues

I wonder if the Social Security Admin. would tell you where they sent his last check. I've never seen this question raised on the message boards. Hopefully someone who has tried will let us all know. My guess would be no, but one never knows until they ask.

I did try to find out and they couldn't or wouldn't give me any further info. He might not have even gotten any checks.

Tina,

This may be the answer. I know there must be a death record at the SSDI and if so it should have the place of death. Since you have the social security number you should be able to get this. It is 27.00 but if and only if it contains the place of death and the exact dte of death. Possibly if you called social security they could tell you if the ss death record would have more information than what is in the social security death index online. If so then and only then pay the 27.00

I hope this helps. If you do get the exact date of death you could have someone search the obituary for you.

Sandy

Hello Sandy,
I have tried Sec Soc to see if I could get an exact date or death place but this info on line is all they have. His last place of residence was Boston when he applied for his Soc Sec Number in 1947. I actually have a copy of the application because I did sent away for it and received it. I sent away for his death record and it came back no record found. I was hoping that was just a mistake and maybe someone already doing research in that area could try and find it for me. Maybe I still get lucky one of these days.
Thanks
Tina
