East Lothian Dalgleish's and recurring names Isabella, James, John

I am trying to trace my dad's paternal line. His grandfather James Cairns Dalgleish brought his family to Canada early 1900's. I don't know anything of his parents or siblings, except that he was born in East Lothian in 1872 or 1873.
However, amoung his children are the names John (my grandfather) and Isabelle, both of which are names from many generations in East Lothian. Also, his middle name Cairns was given to three of his sons (and one the initial H) I see there were lots of Cairns in East Lothian too. (actually lots of Isabellas and Johns too)
My dad also thought his dad had a brother Ninian, although I am thinking maybe Ninian was actually a brother of James from East Lothian as I find records of Ninian C Dalgleish born 1880 in East Lothian (he ended up in the U.S.)

Does this fit with anyone else's history?

Thanks, that's actually my post on that group too. BTW I've appreciated the detailed information you've posted there. Hopefully someone will recognize some relation to this family.

Hello Heather
Here are some General Register of Scotland (GROS) index entries. All the certificates are available online at scotlandspeople.gov.uk and the information will enable you to look them up very quickly. it costs about 6GBP (10USD?)for 30 credits. Hint search for the lot at once and you only pay 1 credit for the indexes then 5 credits for each certificate Just put Cairn in the forename field and Dalgl% in the surname field to find them all. The percentage symbol is a wild card and will find the Dalgleish name variants that happen all the time.
Year Surname Forename Sex District City/County/MR GROS Data
