I have found out information from spending a weekend up in Holyoke
library about my viens line. My g-grandfather frederic was born and raised in
holyoke jan 1881. I just found that his father was a charles viens married to
malina bessette. From the info I found, it looks like charles came from
pittsfield, ma. If any of this info rings a bell please contact me here or

you list, married to a Sophie in 1819, is the Charles I'm looking for.
Is it possible for Sophie to have had a son born in 1847?
Also when did Charles and Sophie come to the US and where did
they settle. The Charles born in 1847 spent time in the Pittsfield MA
area then moved to the Holyoke area.
If you have the information I would greatly appreciate finally
finding where my family came from.

I have also been doing research on the Viens in Holyoke, MA. I am looking specifically at a Frederick Viens that married a Clementine Hamel in Holyoke on 1Jan1868. Fred's father was John and his mother was Mary.

Frederick and Clementine had the following children:

I am not sure if there is a connection your Frederic. It just so happens that I was in Holyoke today and learned that Viens and Cummings are the same family. Can you tell me more about this?

At the time my grandfather was in grade school in Holyoke, most of the teachers were Irish and had difficulty pronouncing "viens". One teacher knew a little French, and she concluded that "viens" means "come". She decreed that henceforth my g-father would be called "cummings". How lond that lasted I don't know.

I know that when Clarinda moved from Quebec to Holyoke some Viens relatives came to Holyoke at the same time. My grandfather remembered Clarinda visiting several Viens relatives in Holyoke but I haven't been able to make any connections. I know that Charles Viens and Marie Amable Vigeant had many children. His second wife, Madeleine Daigle dit Lallemand was not as lucky. She had 16 births and only 4 survived! Several offspring from both wives intermarried with D'Artois (L'Homme dit Artois) family members. I would love to know more info on the decendents of the children from both of these marriages. Can anyone help?

I am looking for info on a Katherine Viens (b:approx 1840), her husband was John Perrin and they lived in Holyoke, mass. I have found her name listed as "Come" on her daughters birth certificate and "Viens" on the death certificate. I have been unable to find her parents information, or the marriage info for her and her husband. Any info would be appreciated.

I have been searching for my 3rd great-grandmother Catherine Viens B. abt 1840, she also lived in the Granby/Holyoke Massachusetts area. While searching for information on her I came accross a book of baptism's from the Precious Blood Parish in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

This book had baptismal records for:
George Charles Viens 11/18/1878
Guillaume Alfred Viens 01/12/1876
Emma Viens 03/17/1871
Marie Cora Viens 06/05/1880
Marie Ida Viens 04/11/1884
The parents that were listed for these children were:
Alfred Viens and Clementine Hamel

There also was another baptism for:
Marie Azelie Viens b. 07/07/1869
Father-Frederic Viens, Mother-Mathilda Hamel

I'm still looking for any info. on Catherine Viens, I have not found any connection to the other Viens in the Holyoke area, but there has to be a connection somewhere. Possible siblings or other close relatives to Catherine are Ursule Viens and Pierre Viens.
